Thought of this idea while listening to NPW today.

1) Split Iraq in two, north and south. North becomes a new state for the Kurds.
2) US arms the Sunnis to kill the Shi'ites...and fight Iran in one blow.

Think it would fly?
 
Even though no one takes the splitting of Iraq into distinct states along ethnic and religious lines very seriously, I still think it's the best solution. All 3 (?) states would share equally in the oil revenues from the Iraq Federal Gov't. Problem solved.

Next, we'll move to the Israeli-Palestinian problem. Just draw a line right there between 'em. Bam, Palestinian state over there, Israeli state over there, they share Jerusalem equally.

I bet we could have peace on earth, save the whales and bring global communion.

There is something like 13 million shia vs. 5 million sunnis in Iraq. Even with ample US arms, killing the better dispersed Shia might take a while---even with a 13 to 1 kill ratio that would then leave 4 million remaining sunnis to take on the better armed 70 million Shia in Iran---then--even with the same 13 to 1 kill ratio---it leaves 18 million remaining Shia in Iran battling zero remaining people in Iraq.

But I am sure GWB&co have taken some note of your plan---with better math it just might work.
And even if Saddam no longer had any WMD---the USA still has ample stocks.

Why should the USA allow either Hitler or Stalin to remain the number one mass murders on the planet?---America can do better!---GWB&co can show the way.

So your plans call for Iran to overthrow Iraq, increase their territory, and take complete control of the entire region? I'll buy that.

Uh, yeah, seriously. Wasn't that EXACTLY our foreign policy a few decades ago? The foreign policy that gave us Saddam murdering all sorts of folks and an Iranian government that bitterly hates the US? What a brilliant idea!

All in all an excellent take---but missing in action is the question of who will be the new Iraqi Saddam dictator type that restores all the glory of the 1985 status quo---which lead me to nominate GWB&co. who will be on the unemployment line in a few years.---and could allow a fairly young man to have many more years of productive mischief.
 
Here's another idea: How about slice off a part of Iraq while we have control and give it to the Palestinians? Palestinian state anyone?

These sound like absolutely retarded ideas. Why not slice off a part of Idaho and give the palestinians a state there? What about Wyoming? The LA area dwarfs all of Wyoming in terms of the population. Lord knows how much free space we have in the Western US...

Why Iran? And why arm the Sunnis when Shi'ites make up a larger percentage of the population?

Saddam was sentenced to death for crimes the U.S allowed him to do.

How bout we arm the PNAC with assault rifles and ship them to the front lines? It wouldn't solve the Iraq problem but it'd sure as hell make me feel better. 🙂
 
How about we leave.... Give Iraq to Iran to run while we are gone...?

Then they will have all the gas they will need and won't need nuke power anymore...

Sounds like a good plan to me. But...But!!! Bush won't get is WW3 and he won't be able to spread his christian disease... Oh well...

We aren't constructing, converting, and consolidating military bases so we can completely withdraw our presence there, IMHO. The capability to swiftly move in assests and force project in the theater, without jumping through all the hoops we have in the past, is a U.S. military planners wet dream. I don't think we have invested the time and money in them, just to turn them over to the Iraqis.

 

A three way split isn't such a bad idea, but I bet they'd end up fighting over oil resources and territory anyway. You'd also have to figure out how to move Sunnis out of Shiite areas and Shiites out of Sunni areas.
