If there is going to be any population control - it'll be the removal of the deadbeat leaches. You know -the ones like you who think they are entitled to other people's money just because you are old.

I respect my elders - I do not respect olders just because they are old however. Respect is earned and clearly you have not earned such respect due to your attitude that you are owed something by everyone else.

Apparently, the burden is on older people to show that they are not deadbeat leaches.

Yep. I should have planned better while having FICA taken out of every paycheck. I should have planned for the Bush family attempting to fulfill their wet dream of destroying Social Security after I paid for a working lifetime. But how does one plan for grand larceny?

Yup, we owe them their Social Security and my children owe me mine. That's the way it works.

How can you respect your elders if you don't respect the old? You're confused again.

Deadbeat leaches? You ungrateful piker. The money I'm collecting from Social Security is the over $200,000 contributed by myself and my employer over a lifetime of work. And that's not even counting the average rate of return for Social Security which is at three percent, IIRC.
Why don't you do the math, piker, and tell me what the compound interest is on $200LARGE over 40 years? Then tell me who is leaching of off whom with their ridiculous Social Security destruction plan.
In the meantime keep your a$$ at work and make sure you keep those cards and letters coming.
And why is it my generation's fault you bought into the ponzi scheme called Social Security? Why is it my generation's fault/responsibility to continue to fund a program that will be bankrupt before we get old? Why is it my generation's fault YOUR generation already spent the money that was meant for your leeching years?
You may have been suckered into believing in that scheme but I and others are not going to stand by and watch you double dip.
So again, IF I believed in population control it'd start on the far end - not the near end.

If you knew anything about social security's history (which you don't based on this post), you'd know it was created after the great depression because of the extreme poverty many elderly people faced, having lost their savings in the market crash. The point was that society as a whole would be better off with a system like social security. Forced savings isn't that bad of an idea because it forces people to do what they otherwise wouldn't. Recently, I believe there was a 1% savings rate in the US, so clearly, we don't like to save too much. I'd rather people sacrifice a little now so we don't have elderly living in garbage for the last years of their life. I guess we never bought into, "respect one's elders"
And Genx, how the heck can you call BBond a leacher. He paid 40 years into the system and he shouldn't expect anything back? Are you freaking kidding me?
Everyone on this board astounds me more and more everyday. I kind of miss CycloWizard, as he was one of the few reasonable people on this board, willing to actually discuss something instead of generalizing. I'm sure he wouldn't call BBond a leecher like you guys.
BBond, while I don't always agree with your posts, (ie, I don't like Bush but he isn't satan) you have a good point here and ignore these misguided youths about calling you a leecher.

The disrepect here is astounding! So when one is no longer working but has paid into SS, they are useless, and called welfare cases?
I still don't understand how paying into a system and then getting money out of it is leaching ... maybe someone can explain this to me, but honestly, I am lost.

Umm - "bbond's" generation has already spent the money they paid in. But hey, if they can double dip then so be it - right?
Also, I know why SS started and what it was originally intended to be, however it's a legacy system that "bbond's" generation has raped and pillaged. It needs to be heavily reformed(if not completely removed and replaced).

No, when someone is no longer working but has paid into SS and is grateful that people pay into the system to help those who NEED help are fine. It's those types like "bbond" that demand they are owed this and that who have not earned respect. Age doesn't determine respect.

Just stop it. Enough. This is just getting ridiculous. Really.
Now my attitude determines whether or not I should receive the Social Security benefit I paid for my entire working life?
Just stop it. I was kidding of course about the bedtime thing but now I'm not so sure.

The people who raped and pillaged Social Security were the past two and the current Republican presidents.
Record deficits ring a bell? Huge Bush tax cut when he knew full well there were piles of IOUs in U.S. Treasury Notes we'd have to start paying in a short decade or so?
The malfeascence of the very people you support is the cause of this problem. And their secret agenda to destroy Social Security perpetuates it.
There is no crisis. There is a very simple fix. What is your reason for perpetuating lies and refusing to fix it?
Simple greed.

Uh - so much tripe...where to start.
SS was being spent by your generation years ago - it was your responsibility to stop it. You didn't so you decided to take more from people's checks to pump up your benefits. Now you want to pump them up some more to replace the money you already spent so the increased benefits can be paid.
Meh, leech away...
