How about PNY Geforce 6800 128M AGP?

I am not sure whether to buy this card which will be sold at CompUSA for $200.

I like GF 6600GT AGP, but do I need to wait? Is this 6800 much better than 6600?

Also, looks like this 6800 does not include VIVO. Do you think this is important?

Thanks

yes the card is better than the 660o GT.
Its a great deal if you have 230$ to spend ont he card and wait for the 30$ rebate.
VIVO is not important unless you are doing video editing with your camcorder I think. I dont use it personally.

I often do video editing, using 1394 port.

So, the vivo function of video card will improve video editing significantly?

Its Nvidia !! Don't you know, the higher the number card, the faster it is ?????????

*sarcasm detected*

Anyhoo, yes, the 6800 smokes the 6600GT ... buy it.

I have the PNY 6800, i love it. Runs HL2 and Doom3 very smoothly. And no the VIVO won't help your video editing if you are using Firewire right now.

How much of a performance hit will this card have compared to the 256MB cards? Another thing to keep in mind is the $249 X800 (also 128MB) that ATI just announced.

Hmmmm....that new card looks interesting.

On paper, how do you think that will compare with the 6800NU? The article seems to think it will be quite a bit better.

Hmm, quite interesting indeed!

To quote from the article, "In 3Dmark05 X800 plain is suppose to end up around twenty five percent faster than Nvidia 6800 twelve part counter part." Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but 25% increase for a card costing the same is pretty significant.

Now, any ideas on when this card is going to be released? 😀

Edit: According to another article from the same site, "ATI plants to introduce two cards that will continue to carry the X800 brand but, as it is the case with X850 new X800 cards will be PCIe only."

Disappointing to hear. Oh well, CompUSA here I come!

The X850s are supposed to hit the shelves by January 1. Since these new X800s were announced a bit later than the X850, I'd guess sometime after the first of the year.

Still, I recall one reviewer of the 6600GT (I cannot remember which site) claimed that part of the reason the 6600 fell behind in some tests was the presence of only 128MB memory. Now, I haven't bought a video card since my 64MB Radeon 8500 so I'm out of the loop. These days, do 128MB cards really pay much performance penalty versus 256MB cards with the same/similar chipset?

Hey Davey, how's the fan doing? I was thinking a PNY needed the NV5 treatment....

Agreed, mine was pretty loud but that may be because my system is pretty darn quiet in the first place. it is pretty much silent with the NV5

My PNY 6800NU is very quiet. I cannot hear the video card in my case. And i'm very picky about noise as i've got all stealth fans in my computer. I thought about getting a Silencer before i bought the card, but after using, i'm happy with the stock cooler. The GT is probably a different story as the fan/heatsink look different than the NU version does.

Highly recommended card 🙂

P.S....Call of Duty: UO looks Great at 1600x1200 res.
