How about an "in-thread" search function?

I don't know why AT doesn't have a search function where you can search in the body of the text of the posts. Every other forum I've visited has this function. It's particularly useful for the FS/FT/WTB forum where some people have too much stuff to list in the title alone. So how about it? 😀

I can search the body of posts just fine.

Ok. Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. I think the current search function should search the entire thread of all the threads and not just the titles of all the threads.

For example, if I'm looking for a Pioneer 305S and punch that into the search box, there should be an option to search within the threads themselves for the words "Pioneer 305S" as well as in the subject titles. The problem right now is that a lot of people in the FS threads have too much stuff to list all their stuff in the subject lines. Therefore, the current search funtion is kind of crippled.

Make sense?

Have you thought about subscribing?

We have had this feature for damn near a year now...

There is no option to search a single thread for something other than the "<Ctrl> F" option. I am a subscriber.

Maybe im reading this wrong though. It seems to me like hes looking for a full text search of the thread body... Maybe im just confused...

I was under the impression that he's wanting the ability to go to forums.anandtech.com, click on a forum, click on a topic, then click the search button for that thread only or type in an input box and click a search button to be able to search that thread and that thread only.

Guess I'm reading too much into things today 🙂

....ARE YOU CALLING ME FAT!?

they got rid of full-text searches for non-subscribers, since it eats up bandwidth, and bandwidth is extremely limited right now (as witnessed by the speed of the forums). as everyone else said, if you subscribe, it goes faster.

i would think it eats the db server, not bandwidth. the actual bandwidth usage wouldn't be much more at all (at least the webserver->client part of it)

well something like that. all i know is that it doesn't make the forums faster, therefore it's communist, and it must go.
