How about an Epson 1200U scanner for $100?

To all the people who bought from jandr.com online, was wondering if they've said anything about your order? I tried to e-mail them and haven't heard from them, checked the web site and it seems like the web site still has the same price. Let me know

I have sent an email about the status of my order too. I haven't heard anything back yet. It now appears on their website as "on order". I thought this was a discontinued model... how could they have more on order?

I would have bought this if I had not jumped on the Canon N1200U.

Though, I did send this link out to a friend who's in the market for a good scanner.
I checked the link in the morning and it was still there, yet, about two hours later,
the item no longer shows on their website.

I'm wondering if they've sold all the stock and pulled the deal off to prevent backorders.

Anyway, just wanted to update you all.

That's interesting. I just came from JandR store (around 12:30), and there were plenty in sight stacked up against the columned wall. I realize you guys are referring to website ordering, but for those who live in nyc I would suggest calling the store itself and asking if they have more instore. Good luck fellas.

I ordered this thing at 10 pm on Sunday night. It was a phone order and so I called them up yesterday (Monday) late afternoon and the guy asked for my order number and gave me the tracking number which now shows up on UPS.com as having been sent out yesterday.

Good luck with your orders--from all that I've read here, J and R seems to be very reputable.

Midnight Rambler, like I said I have wanted a 1200 for quite awhile. I followed posts in the newsgroups about their performance, tips, shortcomings, etc. I DID say it is one of the best scanners made. However WAY more than four complaints about dust that I've read. Enough to recognize that of all the complaints that was the worst possible scenario. I was wrong in leaving out that the dust problem is usually evident when FIRST taking the box out of the box. A problem during packaging them I believe.

For people that already have a 1200 in their possession:

How hard would it be to take the glass out to clean the underside of it? Then tape up the "Dust Holes"...problem solved I hope...

Just got my 1200U scanner from J&R. Still cold from the UPS truck. 3 very small holes on bottom to cover. In upstate NY outside of Albany. I guess I can throw away my raincheck for the 636U scanner at Compusa. Great deal thanks.🙂

Got mine in today! Had trouble getting it to work. But once I installed the WinME drivers I was all set. Man this thing is fast. I had an old Canoscan which took forever to scan. This thing is like 10x faster. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got mine too.

The only problem with mine, as mentioned before in this thread, is that I have dust on the underside of my glass. It's pretty annoying--having otherwise perfectly good and sharp scans ruined by these little flecks and white spots.

Also, the manual says not to cover any of the holes--is there any reason for this? Heat perhaps? Has anybody else gotten this problem with dust? I hope one of you out there can give me a good suggestion for getting rid of that dust.

Thanks.

I have not received mine yet, but I was thinking...
Compressed air could/should resolve the dust? I'll let you know if mine has the problem when it gets here.

Just got mine yesterday. Mine was FedExed too. Very nice... it also comes with a free (plus $8 shipping/handling) for some old games like Diablo, and some Corel stuff.

Pulled my Epson 1200U out of the box. Some dust stuck on the inside of the glass plate, as expected--including a rather large piece as well 🙁

Kinda disappointing, but the quality of this thing is otherwise quite nice. I taped up all the holes as well as the leading edge of the scanner, which also happens to open up into the main compartment. Don't want to void the warranty, but I'm tempted to open the thing up and clean it out.

subpar

Im kinda littlebit disappointed too. It's kind of open box and software kind of s*ck compare to HP. Now, I got to live with that.
