How about a....User Submitted "New Avatars" Contest

For a little variety, is it technically possible to change the current group of Avatars with a new set of Avatars?

What I was thinking is perhaps run a Contest to have Users submit new Avatars.....then Anandtech picks say, the Top 100 or so.......then posts those onsite for Viewing / Voting by the ATforums community.

Top votes are put into a group that replaces the Current group of Avatars.

Would be fun....and the result would be everyone would have new Avatars to choose from.

(being that we stare at the same Avatars day in, day out.... a little change would be nice.) 🙂


 
I kinda think the response will start with "It will" and then end with something like this; "never happen".
 
I like the idea but I too fear we will see those famous words,

Exactly what I was thinking!

It just doesn't look right with only 79 avatars, we need 80. 😉
 
So, any chance of this happening Zuni?

I bet there are many talented artists in the ATforums community that could come up with some awesome new designs and would jump at the chance to submit new avatars.

(perhaps they will even come up with a cool MOD/Zuni avatar)

79 new avatars to choose from would be very cool.



 
Good idea - Seeing that they will never let us choose our own personal ones, this sounds like a good option for subscribers.

hee hee, a little over a year since the initial post...

Gotta give credit though.... a dragon is now available. A few other new ones as well.

I still say the AnandTech Community could come up with some great ones.

Heck, I'll give it shot. I'll whip up a bunch to submit as an example. (Proof pudding visual reference kinda thing.)

Any suggestions/requests ? (How about a System Rig avatar with bolted on Jet Turbine/Wings? More Animals? Occupations? Generic RPG characters? Anime style? Monograms?)








 
I think the problem with a user submitted thing is that they'd be flooded with submissions. Then someone would have to sift through them all. I don't think they have the time necessary for something like that.

To even start to make it work, I'd say a time limit on submissions. A day, 3 days, something like that. Then a user submitted poll in OT. The top 10 picked from the poll, for example, would be submitted to AT, reducing the workload of AT staff. They'd pick from the top 10.

They might not even go for something like that.
 
Sure, let's do it. They have to be original artwork no copying of other peoples work, no infringement on trademarks/copyrights etc. No larger than 50x50, and they have to work on a transparent background for either dark or light colors. We'll pick the top 50?. That's enough I think, we'll try and do it once a year or something. One submission each, put your handle for the forums in the email with the icon. Icons that are selected will be the property of AnandTech once they are used.

I will make a submission form in the next couple of days and we'll handle submissions that way.

Deadline is the 1st of June.
