How about a sticky on HTPC case recommendations?

I'm looking for an HTPC case that is both affordable (<$200) and will accept a ATX mobo. Would appreciate any recommendations. However, while searching this forum, I didn't come across a sticky on HTPC case recommendations.

Not sure how to begin a sticky on that topic-- any interest?

Cases change too much to have a truly useful sticky.

Check out silverstone's site, you'll find at least two you love.

problem about a specific case sticy as jaqie says is that they change too quickly.

Given that some never change since conception, but there is always new designs and ideas that come out.

140mm fan support. this is relatively new.

The aerocool's turbine cases, this is also a new design.

In HTPC cases, theres just as many variables.

What i am waiting to sticky is someone to post up a collective link to ALL the Air sinks available with links to reviews. Kinda like what Operandi started last time.

But such a thread would require massive amounts of dedication in updating and editing. Something i dont think i can commit to. My h2o sticky is hard enough sometimes.

Also i should tell you. If your making a sticky you agree to the community that you will answer any questions regarding topic manner in your sticky. A sticky generates TONS' of PM's. If your the kind to ignore most of your PM's, id rather not have you make a sticky as well. :T
:

Well i have plenty of time to wait. :D

RKS if you have some nice information, make a thread on the case like zepper does when he reviews one.

Those look like really nice case btw

Yeah, it fits with everything I wanted:

Simple/elegant design available in black
ATX or mATX compatibility
VFD with remote
Covered area for USB/FW/Card Reader/Audio

Unfortunately I don't have much more info. I know that they are sold in the EU so I contacted the US office of Chieftec. I've have been exchanging emails with a rep for the last few months and he indicated that the Hi-Fi series will be released in the US this month.

As soon as I can get it (assuming it isn't like $300, hopefully closer to the Antec Veris at about $175) I will certainly take some pics and give my amateur assessment.

Here you can find almost everything about the case. Couldn't find a review yet, but there are enough info and pics there to know what you're dealing with. Prices are somewhere around 200$ here in EU, though they've arrived here in romania at about 150$ (~120E).

thanks, that certainly clears up a lot of product confusion for me. :D I wish they had a side-by-side comparision however.

I can't promise this but if i manage to find a nearby store that has these things on stock i'll make a head-to-head comparison and review (photos, opinions etc) and start a separate thread. But only if i manage to find at least 2 models at the same store, there's no sence otherwise.

I just picked up my second Silverstone LC17 for doing an ATX board-based HTPC. They're a steal for $120 and have slots for two 92 mm fans in the front (blow over 6 3.5" bays) and two 80mm fans in the rear. The PSU is nicely ducted such that a "bottom fanned" PSU would create it's own air intake and exhaust. Also, there's a slot where you could put an intake or exhaust 80mm fan right by the CPU. And, it's the size of a standard stereo component (17") whereas plenty of HTPC cases are slightly larger than that - so it fits nicely in my tv stand.

Silverstone also has a number of other HTPC cases that have VFDs and other such accoutrement (check out newegg).

I too came to mention the silverstone LC17. Though I don't plane to use it for a HTPC. I just want an old style desktop case for my PC.

Anybody now how useful the smaller Media LAB LCD's are??

They have both at a nearby store from where i am, i've seen them, and you're right, like the LCD, hate the price. I don't know about you but here it's about 220Euros (about 270$ i think). The LCD is quite uesful however (volume, menu etc), and is very sharp, but still... it's more of a marketing lure IMO. Standard remote HTPC's do the exact same thing with an OSD so... neah, don't really think it's a good investment. The DH101 is much better, waiting to be bought at around 150E, that's about 190$.
