How about a 2-party ticket in 2012 for healing?

Would a H. Clinton/Huntsman ticket fly?

Hmmm...

I still would love to see a Condi vs. Obama debate. How about a Condi Rice/Huntsman ticket?

That's just not possible. Each party is going to nominate its own candidate. These people would have to leave their parties and run as independents or a third party. Is that what you're suggesting?

Horrible suggestion. That's not 'healing'. That's like saying a Jew-Nazi coalition government would be 'healing'.

The parties support opposite sides in some issues (e.g.,, workers and the middle class for Democrats, big corporations and the ultra wealthy for Republicans).

That's not an issue of 'compromise', you have policies giving the nation's wealth to the top or you don't.

On other issues, where the parties agree, those are often the worst ones where they're co-corrupted against the public interest.

We need progressives, not some nutty unworkable combination.

I think it would do wonders for this country. Yes.

Well I'm ready for a third-party candidate or independent candidate. It's always a long-shot but I think things may be getting extreme enough in this country for something to happen.

What I'm less sure about is that they should be from the two standard parties though. They would both have to be very moderate to work together and one side would obviously have all the power as president. We need new ideas.

I'd have no problems voting for a Paul / Kucinich ticket.
Though I know its never gonna happen.

They used to have the runner up be the VP, not anymore though.

LMAO, you sure are gullible.

Gee Wally, those Democrats sure did stick it to big business when they were power!

This. The all-Nazi government was so much better for Germany!

That's only because you don't understand politics quite as well as you think you do. For instance, I reject the way you view the world. I reject your classifications of "left" and "right".

We need progressives, not some nutty unworkable combination.

What do you usually say about others supporting based on ideology?

Article II Section I of the U.S. Constitution states the second-place vote-getter in Presidential elections is the Vice President. So pretty much the suggestion in this thread.

Wrong. Clueless.

You can't even make an argument to respond to.
Craig, have you ever noticed that no one here ever, EVER agrees with you, and people very often call you crazy and/or stupid? Think about that for a bit.

Also your sig is obnoxiously long, cut that shit down. No one gives a fuck who/what you read, you pretentious douche.

The problem is Huntsman is probably considered too liberal, the conservative base wants someone to the right of Adolf Hitler, uncompromising, fire breathing, agent of liberal and government destruction.

There is no reasoning with such people.

If not now, then when? There seems to be a lot on the Right who were deeply disappointed by Bush and apparently quite a few on the Left disappointed with Obama too. Polls indicate low expectations with political parties and in this globalized/techno/communication/information society you'd think people would be much more independent and free with their political power.

Tradition, apathy, the need from simplistic labels, the "team sport" aspect... maybe the system is rigged somewhat as well. It's painful to think we are locked into a perpetual permanent campaign between Rep and Dem. Maybe there needs to be a shock to the system, like say 50%+ of R and D simply drop out.

I like how he quotes himself in his sig. lol

Not a bad idea, but not really a two party ticket. Huntsman, Condi, etc. are all bound to be purged from the GOP for not being ideologically pure enough. The GOP now is on track to rival the Chinese Communist party of the mid-60's.

Paul/Kucinich would be the dream ticket of late night comedians everywhere. They'd be the national equivalent of "the rent's too damn high" guy.

I doubt it would ever be supported by the voters in this country, on either side. Way too much in politics is getting idiots to support you by treating political debates like a football game, and treating the other side like the hated opposing team. Right now, the major component of the Republican strategy is arguing that the Democrats (and Obama in particular) are basically America-hating communists. And like the idiots I'm beginning to think most voters are, the right is just eating it up.

Real bipartisan cooperation on ANY level, much less a split ticket, will only happen when voters start viewing politics a little more moderately.

Never going to happen. Neither political party really gives a fuck about anything but their own career and $$ anyway. The strings dance each of them around like the puppets they are. The only, and I repeat ONLY chance of saving the country would be to cut the strings from the political system, and by that I mean forcibly remove the $ game from the table by :

(1)- Making PAC $ / bribes / ANY form of income outside of their public salaries illegal, and have spectacularly severe punishment for violating it.

(2)- Disband PACs and lobbying firms completely, permanently. The only form of influence on our politicians should be their own concience and the liberty and well-being of their constituents.

(3)- Cap campaign spending at something like $10,000, even for national office. Ban contributions from anything but individual citizens, who can each donate a maximum of $1 per year in totality. Ban public spending on elections, it's a waste of $. It's the responsibility for the voters to get educated on the various people seeking office and the issues at hand.

(4)- Cap the salaries of national office holders to the average income for a full-time worker in their state, and permanently forbid them from voting themselves pay increases.

(5)- Give them the standard 2-3 weeks of vacation and sick time per year. If they have nothing pressing, have them work in some capacity for the public good, or go without pay for the period of time they're not working. Currently the jackholes often work only a few hours per workday, and have much of the year off to go yachting or traipsing around the world on vacation with all of the corporate $$ they've soaked in.

-------

but no, nothing will change. Everything will in fact get much much worse. The US is going to continue to self destruct, through debt, through wanton corruption at every level, through mindless overseas spending, through the selfish and liberty-destroying nature at the center of our concept of a 'corporation', through the vapid culture that teaches nothing beyond idiotic blind consumerism and servitude, to our annihilation of the middle class and education systems.

It's all going down. It's not the Republicans fault or the Democrats fault alone, it's all of us, and we're going to get exactly what we deserve. You've heard the 'new normal' described for the post-economic collapse, f that, it's just a last gasp before the end of the line.
