A man fishing off of a pier in San Diego was not exactly pleased when he spotted a drone hovering above.
The unidentified man responded with a long cast that actually hooked the device!
Tice Ledbetter uploaded the video with the theme music from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” playing in the background and wrote “What a jerk! Gotta admit though, that cast was spot on!”
The cast did not pull the drone to water or destroy it, but it did send a pretty clear message. The owner recovered it and had some untangling to do.
Ledbetter called the man a “jerk” for his cast, but the general consensus among Internet commenters is that the drone operator was in the wrong not the fisherman.
One commenter wrote “HOW DARE you call that man an a–hole! That guy is a legend!”
“The only a–hole here is the one filming. Great cast btw,” wrote another.
I think I have an invention called the drone killer. It's like a paint ball gun that you can use to shot these intrusive drones out of the sky. LOL

fisherman is a dick. He was in a public space with no expectation of privacy. Not cool to destroy others' property

Not a good idea where people are doing stuff like that and to fly it in their way.

Should had reeled it in and mounted it.

Neat! You can also use your gun to shoot at pesky medivac helicopters always hovering around hospitals and intrusive cars driving past your trailer.

First cast too. That was impressive.

Not cool to directly record people without their permission.

AGREED! There are cameras in stores, on the streets, and highways, in parking lots, and garages, on peoples houses, and cars, and, and, and,----
in the hands of dozens of tourist around him, and much closer, (like the girl in white standing next to him). For all he knew, the pilot could have been a professional videographer with a permit, or contract.

Would be nice if people would be as outraged at the government's intrusion into privacy as some appear to be about drones. I also wonder how many people who would be outraged about a drone are on facebook etc posting pics, updates all the time

not cool, but perfectly legal, unless person being recorded is in a private setting with reasonable expectation of privacy. and guess what, people are being recorded without their permission all the time by the govt

There are some pretty well defined guidelines about how close drones are supposed to come to people, everywhere including out in the public.

Most of those would be outside the range of a cast of a fishing pole.

If you are close enough someone can tag it with fishing pole cast, you are to close.

youre not supposed to fly above people, so the drone operator was in the wrong here. the fact that the fisherman can reach the drone (with a very pathetic looking cast) just tells you how close the drone was.
