Don't salt or shovel your sidewalks in the winter!!!

If someone falls after you salt or shovel....they can sue you!

But if they fall because of mother nature only.....they can't sue you.

Neighbors usually avoid the front of my house in the winter. 😀

Lots of places don't have sidewalks. Just walk along the edge of the street by the curb. And as long as your dog doesn't sh!t in someone's yard you should be fine. Just ignore the old batty blue-hairs...

the city owns a couple feet on either side of the street anyway, so if you're close enough to the street it isn't her lawn, its the city's land.

They have it even w/o sidewalks. I know because some idiots decided to do some work that involved the destruction of the first couple feet of our yard at my old place. We couldn't stop it because it wasn't ours. No sidewalks.

towns put in sidewalks, it is an "accessory" to the road that is placed in the right of way

Most roads have a right-of-way specified. This is public property in a sense. In the older days, a 33 foot right of way was pretty standard usually measured from the centerline of the road, ie: 16.5 ft in either direction as measured from the centerline of hte road. Newer standards are 50 foot, 25 feet each way from centerline. My comments are a generalization however, but fairly standard. A good indication is the power poles. They are usually placed just inside the edge of the right-of-way, ie: as far from the cars as possible without infringing on private property.

Those "exclusive" people are going to decide that you an your self-built rambler aren't "exclusive" enough one of these days and are going try to get rid of you. 😉

My neighborhood has no sidewalks nor are there any easements to allow for the future construction of sidewalks. The truly fascinating thing is that every corner does have wheelchair ramps leading nowhere.

Welcome to ADA 2005, recent court rulings and federal judgements have required that ADA compliant measures be taken on ANY reconstruction including a roadway overlay of 3/4". That means even in areas where you don't have sidewalks if you do anything more than crack seal the roadway you have to put handicap accessible sidewalk ramps in, although most states are requiring that the sidewalk be built as well.
