It won't be Jefferies but it actually could be a Dem. Slight slight chance at the rate they are going. A very centrist Dem. They might get a few Dem votes for an actual moderate Republican, though those don't really exist anymore.

I wasn’t fully paying attention but apparently there’s a plan to grant some powers to pro tempore to do some Israel bills.

It looks for all the world like the Republican party has been taken over by traitors who care more about themselves than the general population. So so many of them must be seeing that and fearing it becomes consensual among the American people. I bet there are some really mad Republicans who see their p0wer wagon apple cart being upset. All that ambition and greed out the window because of the ambition and greed of their fellow members. What a cosmic joke they have played into. I would imagine that day by day the average Republican voter is having to deal with an increasing awareness of their own insanity. Maybe they need to change the way they vote so government, how ever terrible they tell themselves, can function least government of by and for the people parish from the Earth.

Like I said earlier, we're not going to have a speaker without any D votes. So they better find a compromise candidate for the job. Because their caucus is never going to agree on a speaker.

America is unfixable due to the archaic constitution and how it divies up how many representatives there are, gerrymandering, how tilted to low population red states the senate is, and the messed up way the supreme court works.

I fail to see any scenario happening in time where these things can be changed, therefore, it is time for a national divorce. It is impossible to right the American government because it is too fundamentally flawed in favor of the GQP, regressives, and there is no real way to change it that's actually possible.

National. Divorce.

Seems to me there are only two ways to fix it. One of them is a violent revolution/second civil war. Which would be beyond horrendous in its consequences, and doesn't bear thinking about.

The other is a very long hard slog to slowly fix the interlocking mutually-sustaining flaws in the system. To do that would require maximising voter turn-out and would surely _have_ to involve court-packing at some point in the process. Seems like that's like a bare-minimum. Though, I think we've got a better chance of dispensing with the monarchy than you have of fixing your broken Constitution (and the former isn't looking that promising at the moment - but at least actual living people can helpfully destroy themselves, in a way that long-dead ones can't).

Even if dems can manage to negotiate a moderate R speaker... There's still that

Ugh, that is disgustingly undemocratic.
The entire purpose of a minority party should be to hold the majority accountable to the people.
Part of that democratic function is the public spotlight, the public record, of their votes.

The minority should always have a regular pathway to propose legislation that results in a simple up or down vote by the entire legislative body.

Shows why Gym has always been a fucking joke as an elected official. He's done nothing, going on two decades, other than bleat retaliatory and spiteful rhetoric. He's a shitheel, one of the many who don't belong in any government job, much less as a lawmaker for the entire country.

Well you could move to another country...

Well you could move to another country...

Or the cult of Trump could move to Russia.

They would get everything they want..
- no taxes to be paid to dems
- no blacks, hispanics, others
- no gays, no trans
- no mooselambs
- no losing elections
- everyone else scared to immigrate there

But they seem to love the pain and suffering and wanting to lash out.. don't they?

How about you take the shitty south and leave our country and start whatever non democratic white nationalist Christo fascist state your party is all about??

If your roof was leaking would you leave or hope for a solution? While at the root it seems unfixable, there is a decent chance we hold the evil GQP away for a chunk longer. And there's a lot of great things in this country, especially in my geographic bubble, whichare still great, as long as the GQP is held at bay for longer.

My family is here, and my mom is getting old so sticking around. but I'd gladly move to Europe sooner than later. If I had an easily transferable career, it would definitely be in my plans already in a 3-6 year window.
