If they do not boot him; Nancy's promise to sweep house will have a negative benefit to the Dems.

Given that he is so entrenched in NY; he will probably not be voted out.

About damned time. Any chance the blowback will get the Democrats to consider shaking up the House leadership?
I know, dream on...

Good. Now round that off with a conviction and the maximum allowable sentence in a nasty prison. Let's start making examples of these fucks.

He may be entrenched in New Jersey, but he is elected from New York.

I've long had the notion that if a public servant gets convicted of any crime, it should be double the max sentence since they were in a position of trust.

As the article states, the timing of this is everything. He's been thrown to the wolves and rightfully so. If my memory serves me correct this investigation has taken two or more years to get to this point. That's a crock, but I guess it's better than Congress turning a blind eye.

Gee.. another Democrat with ethics violations. If only they would stop screwing our country and be more like the Republicans who just want to screw other men. Its odd how tapping your foot in a bathroom is somehow national news but this will likely be overlooked by most of the national media. I wonder if any democrats will actually call for his resignation?

Representative Rangel is former leadership; I was hopeful of a shake up in current "leadership".
Surely there must be some Democrat in the House more suitable than Leader Pelosi.

Don't think for a second that this is a Dem or Rep issue. Both sides are dirty and it's really a matter of who gets caught and when.

And no, he won't get many (if any) calls for his resignation. As little as I currently like the Rep leadership, I can say they strike a pretty good balance between taking care of their own and making them fodder when they do something stupid.

 Troll much. It is on the front page of CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, etc...

And as already pointed out its the Dems that are throwing him to the wolves. If they really wanted to protect him this would come up right after the election and be rushed through before the next election cycle. Its the Dems that are cleaning up.

Oh yeah, cleaning up 2 years later. Lets keep a corrupt guy in office for 2 years and then claim we are 'cleaning up'.

It is a Dem vs. Rep issue because the vast majority of these idiots getting caught lately are democrats. There seems to be a distinct pattern of corruption and acceptance of corruption in the democrat party. For the most part the scandals we have had out of the R's lately have been related to gay sex.. I'd rather have THAT than some jackass stealing money from taxpayers and got knows what other illegal activities.

no its not a Dem vs. Rep issue. this is a fucking politician issue. to many in politics are currupt. the fact NOTHING really will be done about the guy shows proof.

both reps and dems are getting nailed over curruption over the last 20+ years. to blame one is insane.

This time it's Dem. Next time it's Rep. Sorry man, I hate the left (mostly), but this falls under the "politician" label.

How to fix it? Start imposing heavy-handed tactics like lengthy jail sentences for corruption instead of figuring out how much they stole and making them pay back a quarter on every dollar. Leaving office should be a given.

You guys can say it all you want, I'm pointing out the facts that the majority of people getting caught lately are democrats and while there may be some R's that are doing shit as well, it seems like the majority of problems seem to be coming from the D's. And just like most D's who get caught they will likely just resign (After 2 years) and have almost nothing done to them, the media will drop the story, and they will continue to collect a bit fat taxpayer funded pension.

Yea its not like the republicans would ever fire their own for going against another republican... oh wait...

"More recently, during the rise of Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff, there was pressure on the Ethics Committee to take action to admonish members involved in their activities. However, action was slow and blame pointed to then-Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. When the Committee did admonish Tom DeLay for a third time, Hastert fired the Chairman and two other Republican members who voted for the admonishment. Without a quorum, the Committee could not take further action against DeLay or other members involved in that scandal or others."

Yep only Dems are evil, republicans are great.

Well - I expect to get screwed by Congress, but not by the Senator in the next stall. That's something new! LOL

The point is, in a few months/years it will be the Rep that is constantly getting caught. I'm certainly no friend to Dem, but there is foul play on both sides and it's roughly equal over time.

Here's the difference though.. when the R's do it the media and D's act like the R's are the only ones who do it. When the D's do it, the media and the D's ignore it along with the R's or say they both do it. We need to call it out when we see it and there is a disturbing trend of D's getting nailed lately.. I'd call it a PATTERN of CORRUPTION by the D's with no end in sight.

Yawn. Just another scumbucket politician. Nothing will happen to him, he'll draw a huge pension for life and we get to foot the bill. I think these guys should be hauled off to jail to set the example that this will not be tolerated.... but there's always too much of the "my team / your team" angle where both sides want to protect their own and nail the other side.
