I've long had the notion that if a public servant gets convicted of any crime, it should be double the max sentence since they were in a position of trust.

As the article states, the timing of this is everything. He's been thrown to the wolves and rightfully so. If my memory serves me correct this investigation has taken two or more years to get to this point. That's a crock, but I guess it's better than Congress turning a blind eye.

Representative Rangel is former leadership; I was hopeful of a shake up in current "leadership".
Surely there must be some Democrat in the House more suitable than Leader Pelosi.

Don't think for a second that this is a Dem or Rep issue. Both sides are dirty and it's really a matter of who gets caught and when.

And no, he won't get many (if any) calls for his resignation. As little as I currently like the Rep leadership, I can say they strike a pretty good balance between taking care of their own and making them fodder when they do something stupid.

And as already pointed out its the Dems that are throwing him to the wolves. If they really wanted to protect him this would come up right after the election and be rushed through before the next election cycle. Its the Dems that are cleaning up.

It is a Dem vs. Rep issue because the vast majority of these idiots getting caught lately are democrats. There seems to be a distinct pattern of corruption and acceptance of corruption in the democrat party. For the most part the scandals we have had out of the R's lately have been related to gay sex.. I'd rather have THAT than some jackass stealing money from taxpayers and got knows what other illegal activities.

This time it's Dem. Next time it's Rep. Sorry man, I hate the left (mostly), but this falls under the "politician" label.

How to fix it? Start imposing heavy-handed tactics like lengthy jail sentences for corruption instead of figuring out how much they stole and making them pay back a quarter on every dollar. Leaving office should be a given.

The point is, in a few months/years it will be the Rep that is constantly getting caught. I'm certainly no friend to Dem, but there is foul play on both sides and it's roughly equal over time.

Here's the difference though.. when the R's do it the media and D's act like the R's are the only ones who do it. When the D's do it, the media and the D's ignore it along with the R's or say they both do it. We need to call it out when we see it and there is a disturbing trend of D's getting nailed lately.. I'd call it a PATTERN of CORRUPTION by the D's with no end in sight.

Yawn. Just another scumbucket politician. Nothing will happen to him, he'll draw a huge pension for life and we get to foot the bill. I think these guys should be hauled off to jail to set the example that this will not be tolerated.... but there's always too much of the "my team / your team" angle where both sides want to protect their own and nail the other side.
