I guess "the vibes" thing is from my parents, they're into the feng shiu stuff, direction the house is facing, location of staircase, etc ... the church can be seen as a place of sorrow, where ppl. brings their worries and troubles ... sorta the same thing as ppl. who does not like to live close to a cemetry. At the same time, you can look at it the other way, the Church is God's house, a place that provides peace and tranquility ...

OK, thats cool - I can respect that. You're original post was a little odd-sounding so sorry if I misunderstood.

I only have a passing knowledge of feng shiu (sp?), but I would think that it would be a wash - prayers of sorrow and prayers of thanks in a sort of balance.

Really, its whatever you are comfortable with yourself. If your parents are very concerned, talk to them about it.

I'd say the only real concern is parking. Go by on a Sunday morning and see what thats like.

Traffic and masses of people coming and going could be an issue.
Bells could be another. Personally, I'd never live near a temple. I can hear the bells ringing from almost a mile away right now, I wonder what would it be like to listen to the bell at noon - or anytime they are in the mood to ring them -, up close and personal. Electrically controlled ones are sometimes affected by lightning, it's creepy to hear the church bells ringing at night in the middle of a thunderstorm.

Edit: of course, church habits regarding bells might be different in your country.

I would go a step further and actually attend a service on Sunday morning. That way you can get a feel for how this group worships. If you find out they are loud, obnoxious, pass out snakes, etc. you can at least make an informed decision about the house.

Apparently, church-goers are evil or something.

"bad vibes"? Please explain.

Judging from the rest of the thread, he might be concerned about the traffic.

"bad vibes" may refer to the potential solicitation that may occur

I wouldn't like all that traffic and noise on Sunday mornings... and the parking can be a problem sometimes... depends on how big the lot is.

I actually almost bought a house next to a church, but didn't like the size of the house - too small for me. (My wife loved it though)

But, when the realtor hyped up how quiet it would be next to the church, I pointed out that the only day I sleep in is on Sundays... and that's the only day it would be loud at the church from all the singing.

on another note, while I, to a degree, respect people's interests in feng shiu stuff, I hope your parents don't go overboard. For the most part, (in the vernacular of Penn and Teller), it's Bullshit. I'll agree that some arrangements are more pleasing/relaxing, etc. But once you start believing that certain arrangements of furniture bring good luck to a house, you're getting a little out there.

Agreed - a few months ago, we found a house that really liked, we went back and asked if my gf's dad wanted to check out the house to get his okay. He took out the map and told us the house is not good based on the direction ... I was like WTF!! So now we're trying to keep things at a minimum.

Thanks for the replies ... we'll go check out the house tonight again. The house was listed 5days ago and they're reviewing offers tomorrow. Seems a bit rush but that's been like the last 3 houses we've put offers on, all the houses were gone in less than 7 days from list date and all went way over list price. ugh.

Oooo! I am humbled by the stunning breadth of your putdown. For yes, the BB-generated icon is poorly drawn. How crushing to the point of my original post that is.

How's that for being a smartass?

Most asian superstitions are "out there".

my sister had a church go in a old appliance shop across the street from her house. Its a spanish christian new age church. They play their music so loud all the neighbors have called the cops on them many many times. The "pastor" has threatend my sister and other neighbors telling them "you will be sorry if you call the police about our music again"

Mr pastor dude does not know how close he is to being seriously fu*ked up by the neighbors.

City hall is at its witts end about this situation. The city Attorney drove by one evening after the neighborhood called him and said that the music was up again. He was astounded that the church would do that. As such is totally on the neighborhoods side on this issue.
