House next to a church ...

I found house that fits all our criteria but the only thing is, it's right next to a church ... well there's the church, parking lot then the house ...

Just wondering if we'll get any bad vibes from living next to one ... or am I being too sensitive ...

For me it would depend on the type of church.

Church of Satan? I would pass.

Generally speaking, I would hope that having a church as your neighbor would guarantee that you would never have anything to worry about on that side of your property.

Why are you apprehensive about it?

My friend lives in East Nashville in a house next to a church. He's not bothered by the crowd on Sunday, of course the church is only about 300 members large. The house across the street was involved in a drive-by a few months ago...I'm not seeing the "vibes" from the church interfering with secular life.

Yah I wouldn't be concerned about "vibes." The traffic may get to me, but it would all depend on the size of the church and the hours of their services.

benefit: you have a huge parking lot on which to park friends/family if you have a get together. Or, for roller blading (if it's paved)

But if the parking lot is owned by the church, make sure you're on good terms with the church owners. Pissing off the pastor and having him call the cops on your family reunion cuz you're using his parking lot isn't necessarily a good thing.

Overall, I'd love to live next to a church, if the religion is right.

Not a problem. The church is usually quiet and has plenty of parking (usually) so that it won't overflow and park on the street. I live across the street from a mosque and another church is next door. Both are very peaceful, minus the school the church runs. I can hear the cheer of kids all day if I stay home.

My biggest problem is that I live next to the city baseball field with bright lights for night play.

Have a catholic church down the street. Only iussue I have is the increased traffic when they have services (and they seem to always have services), and and they speed, etc. that people drive down our small unpaved road to get there. I almost followed a guy into the parking lot a few weeks ago to have a word with him ... passed me over the crest of a hill on this road, probably doing 40 or 50 MPH.

Oh yea, they had some kind of "youth rally" there about two years ago ... blasting out "christian rock" to the point that I could plainly hear it 1/4 mile away :roll:

Vibes from the bells ringing? WTH are you talking about? I guess if you feel bad about some things you do in the shadow of the church then I would think twice or it may clean up your life. Or if you like to practice PAGAN rituals on Friday - Sunday you may want to think twice.

I wouldn't like the traffic myself but other than that it wouldn't bother me.

My friend lives next to a church. The parking lot is in his back yard. Really, its not a big deal, and if he needs to use the parking lot to get his cars off the street, they don't mind. Nobody blocks his driveway, and sometimes they bring over leftover food for him after a wedding.

I will say that the couple churches that I'm familiar with have had several minor incidents of petty theft... Maybe open buildings are magnets for this kind of activity, but if you are right next to one, you may have to deal with these people infrequently.

Not only that, but I like to work on my vehicles on the weekends. I dont think the church would like it if I were running my air compressor before noon, but I regularly am out until 8-9 on weeknights or after 9 on sunday mornings.

Churches have regular activities during the weekdays like choir practice, etc that may not like any noises from next door.
