my parents have a rental property and the tenant called saying there is bad leaking in the walls from the rain. Unfortunately, they are out of country for another week or so, so responsibility probably falls on me.

I've never owned a home before, what should I do?

Do your parents have a contractor that they use on a regular basis? If so, give him or her a call and have them inspect the place IMO.

Go look at it. If it's a flat roof and damage is going to occur, you might get some tarps. Other than that, the storm will have to be ridden out.

It's leaking from the wall?

Is the house built into a hill?

If so there really isn't much you can do. Head over with a shopvac & some fans, you've got some water to clean up. Oh and hope like hell there's no carpet in that area.
