House lawmakers vote to raise own wages

A little unfair? Why the hell do you think that we have such a poor educational system? Because the stupid idiots on capitol hill keep stealing from the American people by raising their own pay FAR beyond what they deserve to be paid!

$158,000 a year doesn't go too far when you're required to have residency in both your home district and in Washington DC. A small townhouse in Georgetown (where most reps and senators live) costs well over $1,000,000.

Not to mention the hookers and blow.

Most of them are pretty rich anyway. But yea, I think most of the time people take a pay cut to go into these offices. Of course, there are many benefits.

EDIT: At least in California, we really need to fix the Cal Trans efficiency. Basically the deal is how many cal tran workers do you need to dig a hole? One to dig the hole, and another 3 to watch him and get paid the same wages.

Do they actually pay for those residences tho?

Yup. And it's a common misconception that most congresspersons are rich. Most Senators are, but the House is a different story.

Yeah, because their pay is such a large percentage of the national budget.

Are you drunk today Nik?

What kind of argument is that? Everything adds up.

These wages are usually a small portion of their income.

Most go into politics to do good, but some do very well.

I didn't say if it was right or wrong that they increased their pay.
Nik was claiming that the high pay of congress members is the reason we have a poor educational system.
And that is simply ridiculous.

I was stretching it quite a bit, yes. But you wonder where your tax dollars are going? Into their pocket, not bettering the nation.

if the pay is low, then only rich people that want POWER will run for office

DC is an expensive place to live , i think it is reasonable

Give me a break, it's a COST OF LIVING raise.

I've been waiting for a cost of living raise for a few years now.

Get a job with the federal government, because all federal employees are getting one.

The Constitution states that elected officials are the SERVANTS of the people. When was the last time any of you felt like a politician was a servant to you?

Considering the amount of responsibility they have, I think their pay is on the low side.
