hottish? abit sp53 5.1 speakers $59

I didn't know ABIT made speakers.

They don't say how many watts it can handle (not a good sign)

Pretty good price for a 5.1 system, though.

Personally, I'd recommend the refurb SoundBlaster 5.1 on Creative's site. My friend bought the top of the line 5.1 system refurbed from them, and everything was brand new. He thinks that it was just open box - everything inside was still new, bagged, and sealed.

according to abit's site these speakers actaully have a greater freqency range and more total wattage (same satallites but the sub is more powerful) than the creative inspire 5300's (which i was also considering).

i'll bet the dynamic range sucks. wattage != more volume when comparing different drivers. just like mhz != more performance when comparing different processors. i'll bet the clarity also sucks, and that high, low, or mids is over or under powered in relation to the others.

Well here's a link to a review by 3dsoundsurge.com on the Abit SP50 speakers. The systems are not quite in the same league however. Here's a link to a place that's selling them that lists the set as being 20watts RMS. I'm guessing they mean total output = 20watts for sub + 5 sats: Link

<< the more entry level SP-51 and the higher end SP-50 >>

These might be lower-end than the SP50. Sites that sell both price the SP53 lower.

From some French google result:
5.1 digital home theater system / 20W RMS / subwoofer + 5 satellites
whereas the SP50 is described as:
5.1 digital home theater system / 40W RMS / subwoofer + 5 satellites / black

Reading the product description on their (Essencom) site, it gives specs and whatnot for the AU10 sound card which would be mated with these speakers. I'd call first to make sure what is listed (SP53 speaker system) is what you're ordering... otherwise it's a pretty good deal!
