Hottest ticket in town: Nats/Marlins game yesterday

so what is the problem with baseball in south florida?
even when the royals lose over 100 games per year, the attendance is at least a couple thousand

Holy cow. I'm always amazed at how poorly Marlins' games are attended. Even the year they won the World Series they didn't draw worth crap.

Nothing really wrong....it was a day game between two last place teams in 95 degree heat. What can you expect?

Being that I lived in south FL until about a year ago and used to go to the Marlins games on a somewhat regular basis, I can say that for one, they play in the Dolphins stadium and it's just not the same watching baseball in a huge stadium that's meant for football.

Also, south FL is hot and humid to the extreme most of the year, so it sucks sitting out in that open stadium melting away to watch a crappy team (for the most part) play a boring game.

If it weren't for the fact that I got all my tickets for free, I probably would never have gone.

Just my opinion though.

But going to see the Dolphins play in that same stadium however was always a blast, it's usually sold out and have the fast pace and energy to make it a fun time despite the sweltering heat.

Haha is that real?

There were about 400 fans on hand [/b]when the game started[b/] Wednesday afternoon and the announced attendance was 10,121. The Marlins have the smallest total attendance in the majors.

so 10,000 people bought tickets, but only 400 showed?

i'm sure more people came in later

Really terrible teams with attendance problems, what'll happen is scalpers buy the tickets at a discount rate and then sell them outside the stadium at below face value. They still make a profit. (although obviously not when only 400 people buy the tickets)

It's awesome, if a little sad for the team playing. I caught a Cubs-Expos game back in '04 where we got good seats for like 5 dollars apiece, face value was 8.

Hell, I just went to a Cubs/Nats game this year (at Washington DC) and our seats were $7 with the student discount.

And why would you even bother sitting at your assigned seat? Would they REALLY get mad and kick you out if you sat behind the dugout even though your seat is high up in the bleachers?

You'd better believe they will. It's even worse at games like this because if they see ANYONE sitting in the good seats, they'll go ask for your ticket. They know damn well nobody's going to pay the extra money for good seats to watch two horrible teams have at each other.

dammit boston needs a ballpark that size. Fenway sells out every freakin game and you are lucky if you can even get ahold of a ticket for 40 or 50 bucks. Gotta love the discounted army tickets though.
