HotSpot@Home is a scam

Tmobile is going to make me pay them an extra $20 a month so I can use my home high-speed internet and wifi router and get better reception(in theory) instead of being a burden on their cell towers? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot....over

And with only 3 phones to choose from what's the incentive to this service? A signal repeater sounds like a better investement.

The "HotSpot@Home" services lets me use my cell phone over a high-speed internet connection via wifi instead of the cell towers(there are only 3 phones that support this right now). It lets me turn my wifi-router into a mini cell tower.

The theory behind the service is you get unlimited minutes, you get better reception, and you're not using Tmobile's cell towers which have limited resources.

As thanks by saving Tmobile money, they are going to charge an extra $20 per month.
Unlimited miniutes is nothing to be because I have a more minutes on my plan than I ever use. Reception at home and the office is an issue at times however.

it's obviously not aimed towards you then. some people can actually take advantage of that whole unlimited thing. and if reception in a users home is lacking, this can help them out. yes, they could move. or switch service providers. but that's their issue.

I think you just found out why it's not worth the $20 for you. I don't think it was designed for reception and tower load issues, although I could see the value of that as well. I'm tired of poor reception in the office.

Maybe T-Mobile is thinking your going to go way over your alloted minutes without
any additional charges from them so they make you cough up $$ up front..
