You're simply unlucky. I've had several hotmail accounts, and it varies from account to account. That is pretty messed up, but you can't complain about a free service either. One account i had, I got tons and tons of spam -- my current account gets absolutely none.

Solution? Don't use hotmail. Do you have a reason to USE it? Use one of the other billion free email services that are available.

oh i don't really use it, it's only for signing up for free junk that I know people would give out my email addy. but it's still pretty funny, the volumes and volumes of spam they send out.

funny, on my school account that I've had for the past 5 years, i've never gotten one porno, get your degree now!, or hot investment! spams.

Let's see, I just yesterday removed all spam from my inbox in Hotmail. Let's see how many there are now... 42 new messages, all spam. Junk mail: 226 (how often is that folder emptied? I never touch it). I can't use the spam-filters because I already use all the filters I can (if I remember correctly, you can at max have 250 addresses in your spam-filter).

My main webmail is nowadays at www.nameplanet.com. I have had it for like 1.5 years now, and I have got about half a dozen spams there in that time.

I've had mine for years now and i never get spam. The only crap i get is stuff that i actually signed up for. maybe i'm just really lucky:)

On average I get about 5-10 spam messages a week which isn't bad for a free service.

<< I signed up for Hotmail the other day, and I haven't checked it since then. Haven't sent any emails from it, haven't used it for any reason. I log in there today and this is what I see:
Inbox 53 (53 new)
Junk Mail 393 (393 new)
>>

Had the exact same experience a while ago. Signed up for a account, never used it (not even once) and after a few days started getting spam. Where did they get my address?

<< Most likely cause you registered a well known name that spammers will hit. >>

I used my initials reversed + misc numbers, not a chance they could have just typed it accidentally, unless they go through every alphabet & number combo available.

<< Again, I guess I need to spell things out. Brand new email address, a few days old. Over 400 spam emails already. I haven't even used the account in any way shape or form. You decide if 400+ random spammers are going to hit my email addy in just a few days. >>

all you did was reiterate what you said initially... are you saying that hotmail is spamming you? that they're generating spam to send to you? all i'm asking is, where you see that hotmail is at fault. are you saying they have bad spam filters?
>>

GOPUNK -- what part of the account was never used do you not understand? If you have to set up filters on an account that was never used, where do you think the spamers get the account from?? I know its not me.. I don't think triumph asked for it either.

what is the point of filtering out people that you don't know? that means if someone sends you an email saying they changed their email from their new account you are not going to get it.

I stopped using hotmail when they kept insisting I become a part of the passport.

I use hotmail as a default account, and get very little spam, less and less as i have blocked any which does get through the bulkmail filters.

Where did you announce your email address to start with? The greatest source of spam is publishing your address on public forums such as these. They use programs which automatically search for them. I didn't have any at all until i first did that.
