Hotmail has cornered me :(

Years ago I got a hotmail account. Everyone who knows me has this account. I cannot change it.

I receive dozens of junk emails a day. Today in a period of 5 minutes I received, to my horror, no less than 6 emails. Here was the sender "System Administrator", "Mail Delivery error", etc. all under the fvcking guise of legitimate emails. I can't believe that the monkey pig bastards at microsoft still have yet to figure out a good or basic filtering system. Hint: If it has the word "congo" in it it's GARBAGE. If it's going to my hotmail and the return address begins with my name it's GARBAGE. If it went to 50 other people with damn near the same hotmail address as me it's GARBAGE. Christ and damnit. Hotmail's filtering system is a farce, and not a funny one at that.

To add insult to injury mrsskoorb and I logon on the same machine frequently. Let's say she's logged in and without signing off I login. It will give an error message and say something like "Are you sure you want to sign in skoorb" so I click ok, and it boots me to the front page. Fine, but then it fails to add my email in the top textbox. A basic frigging addition to the querystring would keep that info, saving me precious typing second. Damn you hotmail!

i dont even bother checking my hotmail account anymore, and ive had it for about 3 years.
all i get is junk junk and more junk/
my isp's email service is better on the spam but far worse on reliability.

im seriously considering paying for an email/hosting service seperately at this point.
zapo.net has been decent to me thus far

With my account, I have the filter set up to send everything to the junk mail folder EXCEPT mail coming from addresses on my "safe list". With the safe list thing, you can either use specific e-mail addresses (ie: someone@someone.com) or domains (ie: insertcollegename.edu). So if you have the time to put them all on the "safe list" or if it's a short list, this might help a bit. I find that it works pretty well and you don't even have to pay the extra $ for SuperHotmail to use it. Again, I don't know if this would work for you, but it might be worth a try.

You probably never bought anything, or fill out some stupid survey for a free t-shirt. ;)

For me, hotmail is my spam account. :Q

Should've used Yahoo.

I haven't received one unsolicited email while using their service.

I never get spam in my hotmail box. The key is not EVER using that email unless you're giving it to someone you know. I have an account that gets over 300 messages per day for everything else, like signing up for stuff. :)

I have had my hotmail address for the past three years and the spam has gotten to a point where I cannot rely on it anymore. Not that I'm complaining since it was a free service, but at first it was one or two junkmails a week. Now it is ten every hour and my inbox is constantly full and I have since abandoned it in favor of my ISP's webmail.

I like spam. It's the only email I get. Nobody likes me. I think I'll cut my throat and jump over a railing onto my head. Goodbye, cruel world.

actually, my junk mail has been reduced to about 1/3 of what it used to be (150 to 50/day). still bad, but better. plus, junk mail filter is on exclusive so nothing gets through.

btw, i believe the policy on hotmail accounts is that if you don't log in to it after 3-6 months, it gets cancelled.

i use hotmail because it is easily integrated with outlook express, and i've had it for the past 5 years so everyone has it.

Well, if the spam is that much of an annoyance you could either try a program like mailwasher or sign up for msn 8. I signed up for the two free months and my hotmail account hasn't gotten one piece of spam since. Before it got 10-20 per day.

dude the new filters they have are awesome. I login to my hotmail account approximately weekly. It used to be that my inbox would be around 80% full of spam (80% of my allotted space -- I think it's been... hmm.. probably about a year since I've gotten e-mail that I actually wanted on that account). Now I usually have less than one page of spam each time I login.

Yahoo works well in keeping spammage out. Hotmail is absolutely horrible. MS prolly wants you to bloat up your email account so they can get you to pay them to get more storage! Or simply do what some do and host your own email.

Yeah ISP email is a joke and a useless solution. Not only have I changed ISPs about 4 times in the last 3 years, but their reliablity is totally ass. You just can't use them.
