Going to a meeting March 23-26 at McCormick Place in Chicago. anybody got any ideas on hotels around the area and things to do.

Thanks!

The hotels tend to be pricey around there and are mostly good. The Hilton and the Blackstone are classics and if you can swing it, really nice places to stay on Michigan Ave. Around McCormick Place there is the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and the Planetarium(whose name eludes me at the moment). The Field Museum is a favorite of mine. If you are into Art the Art Institute is an amazing place. The Science and Industry Museum is really good too. There are tons of touristy stuff to do, but that should get you started.

The Planetarium is Adler Planetarium, I haven't been there in ages, but it is cool.

Museum of Science and Industry is pretty far south, but you can take public transportation to get there .. and it is easy to spend a whole day there, so be careful!

Hotels might be cheaper in Rosemont or near O'hare airport, generally, both are pretty safe/secure areas... so you may want to keep that as a plan b on the back burner...

I've never stayed at a hotel in the city since I've always lived in the suburbs just an hour or so away...

the doubletree downtown is pretty nice, stayed there over new years, and price was like 120 or so(not that bad for the area)

the neighborhood around MS&I was a bit suspect last time I was there

If possible, I would stay at a hotel on North Michigan and take a shuttle to McCormick Place. Though there are some good hotels downtown as well.

If you are into shopping, North Michigan has several vertical malls, a NikeTown, and similar retail centers.

Further south, on Michigan you've got the Art Institute. A bit further and you've got the Museum Campus.

March weather could go either way. Probably prudent to be prepared for cold windy weather.

Should be a good time!

Chinatown's close to McCormick Place. They have decent food and some late night dim sum. If you like the night scene, go a couple of blocks north of Chicago Ave on Rush St (just northwest of the Mag Mile). Tons of people are out at night in this area.
