I don't know of many good hosting companies, except for like godaddy.com. I like onsmart.com, they are $90/year for 1gb space and 50gb transfer with 500 emails. However, I didn't feel like paying $90/year for this one site I want to put up.... so I found this.

well actually its $4/month for buying 2 years right away. I bought a year, so I paid $5/month. Remember, this is a limited time special offer. Their normal plans are actually a little expensive. Regardless, I have 30 days to cancel. Hopefully it works out.

Budget
If you want a web host who is reliable/reputable and plans on being around in 2 years or if you want a "budget" web host.

Would like to publicly thank RossMan (sent a thank you via PM as well, but it was shortly after the Anandtech transformation and might have been lost) for his excellent recommendations.

His advice in this arena is superb. WebHostingTalk is an invaluable forum for information in this regard as well. The two sources coupled together allow Joe-Average-Webhoster (like myself, although I am a bit below average) quite an extensive survey of the marketplace.

After one too many "Hot Deals" hosts...Cyberwings (the horror) then Dixiesys (good price and seemed like nice folks, but sluggish server and unacceptable amounts of site downtime), I decided to do some more research here and on webhosting talk. I also decided to pay a few more bucks.

I ended up with Lunarpages $7.95/mo plan. It's been a world of difference in uptime and site access speed, not to mention disk space and bandwidth.

Anyway, do some research before you jump on a Hot Deal and trust your data to whoever is offering the lowest price. You get what you pay for and if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
 
I'm happy with my Thrillhost account. Thrillhost recently got bought up by Midphase... so far things still seem good. At least I get to keep my old plan 😀

Yep those of you who jumped on the 3GB/30GB for $10 resellers account are very lucky that your account was grandfathered in at the original rate.
 
Wow you people need to calm down. You are all jumping on "won't be around at that price." Did anyone notice their normal prices? This is a special.... defined by limited time offer to attract people.


Their service has been great so far, and I don't have a single complaint.
