I think you get a $5 discount on FIOS if you have telephone service with them.
I was getting 11000 down / 1.7 up for the 15/2 service. The verizon tech had me d/l drtcp from dslreports tools site and we tweaked the settings. Now I get a full 15,000 down, but still only 1.7 up. The Verizon guy said nobody he has seen gets the full 2mb upload speed, and most not the full 15,000 down. My CO is only a block and a half away.

You need a certain bunlde of services on your Verizon phone service to get the $5 off, not just phone service.

Yeah, and that certain bundle costs more than the $5 discount is worth. Personally, I just have the stripped local phone service...economy rate, or whatever they call it. Even with that, it's worth it.

My phone package here in MA on verizon costs $28.79/mo incl tax, which is their cheapest package. It includes unlimited service in my local calling area.
I could get their 'measured service', at $13/mo, but then each call would cost me 1c per call and 1.6 cents/minute.
I could also get their basic unlimited calling plan for $19.26/mo, but that doesn't include caller id ($7.50 extra/mo plus tax). I do use caller ID, so I signed up for my 'package' since it's basically the same price. It includes other features I don't use like call waiting ID, call waiting, forwarding, 3-way calling, *69 and some other stuff. I use someone else for my long distance service. Been on this package for years, so the $5 off FIOS is just gravy.

i signed up for FiOS last week, and they're coming to install it this coming monday

i live in mclean, virginia (fairfax county, right outside DC).

i was kind of hesitant b/c right now i have cox cable, which works great, at 550KB/s down and 60KB/s up for $65/month. seeing that fios is 4 times faster at $15 cheaper, i can't really justify not upgrading. ah well

Bowie Maryland, driving home all last week, I saw workers in unmarked vehicles (about 30 people total) running large orange semi-rigid conduits through my neighborhood along the main road.

Fort Washington Maryland, one of my co-workers reported the same thing.

Both locations are in PG county. Maybe the Fiber Deployment Center is a bit behind on their reports? Last date is about a month ago, so I hope so. I would :heart: to get off of comcast HSI and onto some nice verizon fiber.

I have both comcast 4mb/384kb and fios 15mb/2mb (just got fios and will be dropping comcast soon). I don't know if comcast somehow caps torrent sites/ports or not, but verizons speeds are proportionally much greater, faster than the 15mb to 4mb difference would indicate. Did a test with just the same single torrent open, and d/l speed was more than 4 times faster w/ verizon. Upload comparisons are, to say the least, like night and day.

Just an FYI: the dudes who did my install in February said Verizon rolled this out at Quantico first, and are currently testing video over the fiber for a potential rollout beginning Q4 this year.

Yes, verizon said that was for outgoing. Those are very good options. The $24.79 would really be $29.79 though if you factor out the $5 fios savings for the verizon package.

I have a question. I also have 3 business line (business in the home) and I use ACC Business (div of ATT) for service, so Verizon does not provide service for those lines. ACC Business also has my long distance service for my home line and business lines. Their rates are not that great.

Since Verizon is not handling the business lines, they left them alone and connected as copper when they replaced my home phone line with FIOS.

I'm considering switching my home phone to the least expensive $13/mo basic service and using my business lines for outgoing personal calls.

If I change my business lines to VOIP, what is your experience with service? I assume it would be interrupted when Verizon FIOS has an outage. If my FIOS traffic is choked by dl/ul torrents (right now email access/explorer browsing is slow because I've got about 10 torrents open at easytree and bt.tree.org, even allowing some headroom configured into my torrent app), would VOIP be affected?

my wife works for vorizon, and she says there only in a limited area for testing, but they plan on expanding all over the us.

right now they have it close to my house (i live in Victorville,Cali) theyre starting up here in adalanto,cali.
