Nothin 🙁

I gave them my name/email for when it is available. One would assume we would be one of the first to get it.

Yay for rural minnesota! Oddly enough, I pay 50 dollars a month for 3 down/1.5 up DSL...urgh.

Atleast it isn't 56k.

Unfortunately apts and condos will be the last to get it. Probably years- even though my town is wired I can't get it.

I was speaking with a guy who worked at Verizon here in DC/MD/VA and there is more on top of that. According to him, they are trying to hit the housing areas that have their lines up on wooden poles because its easier to run wire that way. I guess that makes sense since stringing up wire is easier than tearing up concrete for those of us with underground lines.
Anyways, he stated that there is an orderly plan of rollout and that those people who have underground copper are probably gonna have to wait a while since Verizon is going to try to milk more $ out of it and recoup their initial costs and investment involved in burying those copper lines to begin with.
Phooey for me and Alexandria County.

any one in LA have it?

And parts of western Philly burbs, and general DC suburbs (MD and VA).

which western philly burbs? i live in pottstown.. this would be a sweet deal if its avaliable here

I just moved from West Chester, PA (to DC). When I went logged onto my Verizon account to get the account # to close it, I saw under the additional services that FIOS was available to me.

I was like "oh thanks, NOW you give it to me after I moved out" lol.

Luckily I get to choose what area I'm going to live around DC, so I'm hoping to luck into a place the FIOS is available in.

I just had a friend get this installed. He runs a webserver and needed port 80 unblocked. For Verizon to do it, they said he had to get on the $99/month package. Needless to say, he cancelled the service a day later and went back to cable.

Just FYI...

Apparently just a very specific subset of DC suburbs....in my mom's case Kensington. Checy Chase, Silver Spring, and parts of Potomac are the others. Dont' know about DC or VA.

But still...pretty damn good!
I've had it since Valentine's Day in Kensington. Much POWA!

Can you run a webserver on another port?

Stop rubbing it in and flaunting this!!! I hate comcast. 🙁

What's wrong with Comcast? I'm in Miami. FL, and the service here is great. I get like 4x the speed of my friends with DSL, and Comcasts network seems pretty stable too. I haven't had a single problem with them yet. Maybe it's you area?

I believe you can run a web server on any port you wish, 80 is just a default. But youhave to specify the port # in the URL. www.YourSite.com:8080

Comcast has 4Mbps/384Kbps $39
Fios cheapest plan is 5 Mbps/2 Mbps $39.95/mo

Other fios plans:
15 Mbps/2 Mbps $49.95/mo (home - dynamic IP & port blocking)
30 Mbps/5 Mbps $199.95/mo(home - dynamic IP & port blocking)
15Mbps/2Mbps $99.95/mo, (Business - 5 static IP addresses)

I called verizon yesterday, the best they can do for me is 1.5m down. I have comcast now, but it doesn't even seem as fast as it should be. it takes about 3 full seconds to load a page here on AT.

That's slowness on the site side...Anandtech gets huge number of hits and I don't know if it's bandwidth, database, or simple harware performance, but they could stand to double their capacity in whatever the bottleneck is.
