Just got some of these speakers from Amazon ... couldn't pass em up at the price! Search for the TSS-1 speakers in white ... white saves an additional 30 dollars or so than if you get them in black, and also qualify for supersavers shipping. Apply a 5 / 35 dollar coupon on them, and there's a thirty dollar rebate if you order before the 31st. They're nice speakers, 5.1 and come with a decoder :)

I had the luck of getting two sets through some fluke also! I think someone at the plant had a little too much to drink before they sent my order out ... they sent me a case instead of a set. But I'm not complaining! Hope this helps someone :D

Awesome. I have been looking to upgrade to a dolby digital setup. Hmmm.. I wonder if this will work on my sound blaster live value card though...anybody knows? Thanks.

Anandtech actually reviewed these speakers. Basically, the sound quality is decent considering the price and the fact that it decodes digital signals.

Nice! Reviews look solid, 'specially for the price.
This just occurred to me: bobo, if you're interested in working out something for that EXTRA set, let me know PM or email. ;)

picked one up, hope these work good, my first real plunge into the 5.1 speakers for PC, I like having the extra subwoffer jack in the decoder. Hope this works with my phillips 5.1 card I picked up couple weeks ago for $19 shipped.

For the center channel to work you have to either select Dolby Prologic (matrixed) or have a DD5.1/DTS signal sent into one of the digital inputs (the receiver will detect it automatically).

This is a great deal with the $20/100 coupon ($80 AR)

Where do you find that coupon? And is free shipping still available? Also what do ya'll think of these speakers, the people who have received them?

I have these speakers and they sound just OK...nothing special.

Also, they won't work in 5.1 mode with any sound card unless you use Dolby Digital Passthrough from a DVD. That means your games can only be at most 4 channel. The subwoofer will still work, but it won't have its own discrete channel.

Actually, one sound chip that it WILL work with (the only one I know of) is the Nvidia Nforce chipset that has Dolby Digital Encoding. With that, you can have all your sounds encoded and output into a Dolby Digital stream (using Coax cord, not optical) which the TSS-1 will be able to use all its channels for. I think these were meant more for home theater use than for games.

I heard these speakers don't sound all that great, if you ever looked at them in a store they feel rather cheap. The decoding is a nice feature but whats the point if they can't put out good quality sound.

I got some of these and they arrived yesterday. I plugged them into the Santa Cruz card ($50 last week) and they sounded boxy and had NO power. I had to crank them all the way up. My old altec lansing 2.1 sound a hundred times better than these so I just sent them back. Oh well.

Has anybody bought these speakers already?

I'm looking at the rebate coupon and it says that an "original box flap titled "Visit the Yamaha Website Today" has to be sent in order to receive rebate but I don't have anything like that in my box. I do have this green-colored piece of paper (the one that has to be filled and sent to confirm warranty registration) that is titled "Visit our website at www.yamaha.com" - is that it? It that what I have to cut and send to get a rebate?

48 watts is more than enough for most people. If you're one of the people who likes to blast your bass down the street in your car then these may not work for you (you people are so immature)... I live in an apt and I cannot turn the sub more than 15% of its total power without really shakin the room to the point neighbors complain... The volume cannot be raised any higher than about 30% or it too becomes too loud for the neighbors.. I'm sure in a home you can turn it up louder but even then this should pump out enough power to satisfy most people...

As far as the sound, I am very pleased with mine. They aren't the best speakers but for ~$100 I haven't heard anything that I like as much...

Well, to tell the truth tss-1 are a little weak, in some movies that were encoded with a low volume I need to crank up the master volume to the max, but that's always solves the problem...

And again, does anybody know what "original box flap titled "Visit the Yamaha Website Today" are they talking about? I need it to send rebate, I got about a week left before it will be too late... Anybody?

I just got the DTT 2500 a couple of weeks ago and they are great speakers for $90 shipped (refurb).
The box includes everything including a optical cable, coax, spdif, ministereo and some adapters for hooking up ur playstations. Creative has also very thoughtfully provided stands for the rear satellites which are much better than those dinky stands for the FPS 2000. These are refurb but the one i received had no cosmetic defects and dint look like anyone had opened the box before.

fleshconsumed,
I sent the whole triangular flap on the top of the box in an 8.5 x 11 envelope. It has been approved according to rebateshq.com. Postage was like... 60 cents or so..., quite annoying.

Thanks for reply but now i'm confused... Which one did you send, this one or this one ? Hope this works since yahoo now requires premium service to share pics...
