anyone getting a $60 (as opposed to $75) rebate coupon under the link on the outpost page...? a bit of false advertising going on there as well...

[actually, it's the wrong rebate form entirely... it's for purchases made from 2/15 to 2/21]

AmEx Return shipping: If you return it to AmEx you do have to pay for shipping. Last time I did it, it was in Az.

Can someone get this deal for me? Too bad I can't do it myself because I don't have American Express Blue......
I'll pay you $60 for this.

Thank you for your time,
Howard

yes, you have to pay for shipping, which is definitely a turn-off. If AMEX doesn't approve the return then they'll send the item back to you:confused:

With AMEX eliminating the BVG guarantee for most credit cards (cept gold.. is that right?), it sorta levels the playing field. I have felt left out time and time again on deals all because I have been unable to get one of these cards. My credit is decent. I pay all my bills. My credit score is on the upswing. Anyway AMEX never would approve me on any type of their cards (except the ones you have to pay for.. no thanks). Sorry many AMEX users will loose this great pricing option that I have only been able to dream about. They'll have to battle a deal like the rest of non-AMEX people. :)

<< Why cant Anandtech members help others? >>

Let me get this straight. I see two members asking others to buy the drive for them. One is willing to pay the $39 plus shipping and another is willing to pay $50.

Think about it dudes/dudettes.. $75 MIR. Is the AT'er supposed to use up part of their allotment of AMEX Blue BVD, wait for a $75 MIR and ship to you for free? Seems to me that the person would be doing all the work, have to wait for the $75 MIR and hope that the PM goes through and all you'd have to do is pay $5 less or the equivelant after all is said and done.

Now.. If someone got a discount on an item for buying 5 of something and needed only 1, I can see working out a deal, but this deal has far too many variables and wouldn't be worth doing, so please don't ask other ATer's to do this deal for you and then get pissed when nobody bites on your offer.

Well said, Salvador. Those who take the risks, will reap the rewards. That said, I cancelled my order. I already got in on the OD 40GB drive deal, so I don't need the hassle for this one.

Check your drives folks, it is being reported by several members with Wallets that are Fat that their drives are REFURBISHED. Really stinks to buy a products sold as new and open your sealed shrink wrapped package to find a refurbished sticker on the drive. Several people have confirmed the refurbished drive but have not been able to get a response from Outpost yet as to how they will handle it.

Yeah definitely check the drive itself. They reshrinkwrap the boxes to look like it's retail. Check on the harddrive sticker to see if it is reburbished. This is a new low for outpost...

<< my HotDeal P4 machine for sale on eBay >>

There's got to be a rule to exclude someone linking their Ebay auctions on this forum? Anyone know? I would've liked to have linked a few of my auctions, but it seemed like there was no way that it would be allowed on this forum.

Sorry to bring this to everyone's attention, but I'd like to know for sure if it's against the rules.

well, my drive arrived today from outpost, and just as those on FW are describing, I got a refurb. Outside was shrinkwrapped, but obviously not the original shrinkwrap. Drive clearly had a sticker labeling it as a refurb.

Hmmm... 10 seconds reading the form rules that are locked at the top of this forum would answer your question...

What about my sig file?

You may post a simple link to your own business in your sig file. Please do not include specific offers for products, promotions or deals. Please do not include any links not permitted in your posts (pay-to-surf, auctions, etc.).

Bump. Seems lots of folks everywhere are getting refurb units. I didn't get in on this deal, but from what it sounds like, Outpost was unaware that they were refurb.

Sounds like there should be a class action lawsuit.

We need to hire a lawyer to protect ourself from these sneaky companies. I highy dobut that outpost didnt know the drives are refurb. Western Digital wouldn't risk the lawsuit. But fry's, outpost main company do this on a regular basis.

I opened my drive. It is indeed refurbished. I called Outpost and expected to have some nice customer rep. My rep was not nice, acted like it was my fault and I should keep the drive. He really didn't seem to understand why I had a problem with a refurbished drive. Conversation went down hill when I asked if they would pay my shipping fees, and he said only if I provide the UPS information and submit a claim and only if I send it UPS ground. They pay for any additional charges if I use a place that does UPS shipping and charges a bit for the service. Customer service guy was very rude. He really was completely unhelpful. I didn't want them to fall all over themselves, a simple "oh we are sorry" or "we'll be happy to make this right". Nope, just it wasn't there fault and if I wanted to return the drive and submit a claim for shipping I could get reimbursed for the shipping.
I really do believe when fraud is involved it wouldn't kill a company to at least be nice to there customers and maybe apologize for the inconvience, or offer to pay the return shipping without having to submit a claim for it.
