You are going to have to live in a city with both a MicroCenter and a CompUSA to get this. Go to your local CompUSA this week and have them Pricematch MicroCenter on the harddrive. Microcenter has it for $149.99 out the door, no mail in rebates. CompUSA is offering a $100 manufacteres rebate on this drive which means that after rebate the drive will be $49.99. I did this at the Columbus, Ohio CompUSA and it worked out fine, htey have a good pricematch policy. I figured others would also like to take advantage of this deal as well.

edited: I neglected to mention the SE is listed as $209. STILL, if you can pricematch that, it's $109 after rebate.

Which CompUSA in Columbus did the PM, Easton or Sawmill? I would be interested, but as previously stated, Microcenter is selling the 2MB version for 149.00, CompUSA has the rebate on the SE edition (8MB version). How were you able to get them to PM?

If I'm reading the ad correctly, it's the 8MB Cache JB drive and it's for $149. Not sure what the "X" over the $259 means with the $110 in savings sign next to it? Does that mean that it's $110 less than $259? If so, that would make it $149.

Ok.. Looks like a deceptive ad. I linked the flyer that says 8 mb Cache drive, but when you click on the drive info to the right of that ad on the same page, you get this. saying that it's the 2 mb cache drive.

It looks like the flyer is a misprint because it clearly shows the 2 mb cache (BBRTL) drive being $149 and not the 8 mb cache drive (JBRTL).

What we basically need to do is get to Microcenter before they realize the mistake here. I wonder if the CSR's at CUSA will accept the flyer page instead of the detailed page showing all the product info?

Edit: I just realized a problem. Even if you hand them the flyer page, it still shows a sku number which corresponds to the 2 mb cache drive.

I don't know.. This deal really will be a YMMV, depending on what CSR you get at CUSA.

It's a mis-print in the ad flyer's specs. The JBRTL drive isn't selling for $149 + tax out the door.

A few of our more "aggressive" Hot Deals shoppers will try to PM at CompUSA anyway. YMMV.

When I went into the CompUSA I had them call and they did confirm with Microcenter that it was the 8MB Drive. I had the flyer in my hand which also stated 8MB. The cashier grudgingly gave me the drive at the $149.99 price and was not happy about it. Like I said Your miles may vary. I could have just gotten lucky and the cashier got an ignorant MicroCenter employee that didn't know the ad was a misprint. I did this at the New Market Mall CompUSA in Columbus for those that are asking.

The box on the Microcenter ad appears to be the 120MB with 2MB buffer. However, if it's the 8MB buffer as it was confirmed by a few people, then that's a sweet deal without rebates.

First of all, I would like to clarify everything with the Micro Center ad. It is confirmed that that is a typo. I have checked the store a few times about it and confirmed that the $149.99 is for the 2MB cache version, not the 8MB. Anyway...

Here's my CompUSA Santa Clara Hard Drive tale...

I walked into the store, Micro Center ad in hand. Browsed around the whole store for ten minutes before realizing I had skipped the hard drive section in the front. I found an employee to help me. They had no hard drives left in the display, but said they had about eight or so in the back, so she got me one. She then put it to customer service, then the madness begins...

Walked up to the cashier, and told her my HD was at customer service. (At this point I picked up a CompUSA flyer to make sure I, and they, understood the PM policy.) She walked back to the register, and politely mentioned that on the Micro Center ad I was holding, they had the same HD for $149.99. I'm not sure if she even read the specs, but she ended up asking for the ad and calling Micro up to check the price and availability. They confirmed the price of the HD. (This is the same Micro I went to that said it was a typo.)

The cashier walks back from the phone, and points out that after MIR, I still get it cheaper at CompUSA. I politely reply that I don't want to deal with any MIRs, and would much rather prefer paying more than having to wait. (Yes, I was lying.) She then calls the manager and asks if this is possible. A few minutes later, she came back and approved it, but said that I could NOT get the WD rebate anymore. I walked out the store paying $161.29 after California Tax.

The drive is right here in front of me, and I'm stuck between two (hot) deals. Obviously I got away with the CompUSA PM, but will they honor the rebate at that price? I would think they would, and if so would be a very hot deal at $61.29 for the HD. On the other hand, I know that my nearby Fry's has a 100% PM guarantee on other stores and I know a few people that have PMed after rebate prices before. In theory, I could ask to PM the CompUSA price and pick the drive up for $129.99 after 100% PM. (NOTE: The PM is now confirmed as working, but YMMV). I don't know which one I should do, and I don't like too much risk. Any suggestions?

I went to Santa Clara CUSA to PM earlier today. The cashier actually called somebody to verify and PMed it. So I guess either Micro Center's deal is real at B&M or CUSA management decided to give the deal goahead.

Took me about an hour to drive to microcenter pick up the ad and head over to the Easton store in Columbus OH (there were only 2 on the shelf BTW). The manager took a quick glance at the ad and told the cashier to do it. He pressed me on the extended warranty--that's a funny story in itself. Anyway, IF the rebate comes this will be one heck of a deal!

No go in midtown, NYC. CS rep took my printout of the Microcenter ad (not an actual flyer) to the Manager, who said that this store isn't on their list of stores they pricematch with. Wouldn't listen when I said they can call up Microcenter to verify that they're an actual B&M store.

I guess it might've worked if I brought in the real ad??

I just came from CompUsa, I got it with no problem. After rebate, a grand total of 57.49. If you live in the Baltimore area, go to the CompUsa in Columbia. They consider Microcenter in Fairfax, Va, a local competitor.

Print out page 3 and take it to the store. The cashier tried to tell me that they dont PM online stores when I showed it to him, but then the manager told him that they do PM from MicroCenter.

And yes, it's the 8MB cache!

its a no go for the one on queens blvd., NYC. guy looked at me as if i was crazy or something, didn't even call to verify. just flat out said it can't possibly be true. then said he would pricematch their price AR with theirs. so he was only willing to PM off $20. when I tried to reason with him what the hell screwed up logic he was using, he won't budge. he kept going on to say how they are still beating their lowest price with their MIR. then when i went on to tell him how its not always 100% sure getting the rebate, and how theirs does not even have a rebate for the price, he said "well must of not filled it in right." and then the other retarded compusa worker next to him acted offended or something that i said that and went on to further confirm about their rebates being good and always going through. this store is so screwy its unbeleivable they are still around as much as they are. :disgust::frown::|
