Hot weather is here, anyone noticing CPU temps going up?

We've been getting some hot muggy days here in Syracuse, NY the last week and I've noticed a substantial rise in my CPU core temp as a result. Outside temps have been in up into the low or mid 90's and 70 degrees the low at night.

After overclocking my Pentium III 550E to 733 mhz and installing the Taisol HSF, my temps before the heat wave were hanging between 38 and 41 degrees mostly. Now they are on the average 5 or more degrees higher. I do have one case fan, I wonder if I should invest in more case cooling?

What are ya'll experences when hot weather occurs.
 
I'm in Socal and my temps are getting up there. Room temps range from 60F to 90F. Mobo temp has gone up 4-6C and CPU about the same. I'm using ice packs in my case to cool the air inside. It seems to work pretty well. Temp diff of only 10-12C between MB and CPU. Before it was like 16C-18C difference.

Thinking of picking up a portable A/C. 7200 BTU Protable unit.
 
Mine have risen about 4 or 5 C here in central Arkansas.
Speaking of Arkansas, I would like to make this clear:

I just hope summer won't be as bad as last year... last August we hit 115 F a few times...
 
It looks like my experience is consistent with the rest of ya'll. About a 5-6 degree rise in hot weather. I'm assuming you guys are air conditioning, thus keeping temperatures nice and cool and comfy.

Frizzle Fry, that is an interesting solution - adding ice packs. AC is probably better but with electricity cost being high, will cost $$$.

Jtgdragon... where in N California are you? I grew up there... lived in Davis from 1971-1977 and Sacrademento from 1977-81, then Eureka 81-83... finally moved away into exile perminently in 1984.

I remember temperatures over 100 degrees high for weeks on end tho... California must be hurting with the power woes and need for AC these days! Lots of ceiling fans help and at least the air is generally dry out there!
 
Well a general rule of thumb is if your ambient goes up 5C, then your system temp should rise 5C and your processor temp should rise 5C. Only time that varies is if you have little or no cooling in your case, then you can achieve the point where the hot air feeds your processor fan and makes even hotter air, which makes you feed even hotter air........etc, etc, etc......then thermal overload and lockup. Case cooling is essential if you don't have a temperature controlled enviroment. But with case cooling, the whole process should simply be a directly linear equation.
 
techwanabe, not that North. I am in The SF bay area. The power blackout is not as bad as people putted it out to be. So far, only blacked out twice.

SF isn't far at all... Heck, SF is only about 90 minutes from Davis and 2 hours from Sacratomato. Are power prices high?

I was out there almost 2 years ago and the price of housing is beyond the stratosphere. How do you afford it? My sister and her husband live in Portola Valley. The only reason they can afford it is that they are both lawyers, and no kids! My sister works in mergers and aquisitions and her husband works in software copywrite.

I am barely surviving haha. I am just a poor IT guy working from paid check to paid check. 🙂

It doesn't help with the increase in price with the gas and energy bills.

 
Jtgdragon, living from paycheck to paycheck... In the bay area there is no wonder why! I am also an IT person (newly) working from paycheck to paycheck in the depressed economy of central New York. No work for geologists anymore so I got certified last year. Still, there isn't that many opportunities in IT either here. Good luck to you!
 
Temps up, still stable, getting so I don't care how warm the CPU is.

Temps up in the room from the spaceheater that is my computer, this I don't like.

Personally I'm getting to be of the opinion that going for that low CPU temp number is the hobby of the winter. In the summer just make sure it's cool enough it's stable and run for shade.

Don't you guys have air conditioning? Or am I so used to living here in Texas that not everyone has an AC unit on 24x7?
 
Boogak, I used to take AC for granted when I lived in California and Texas. Having lived now in central New York state since the mid-90's it is something which many people, surprisingly, don't have. My house had central air, but now I'm in an apartment and no AC. Plus, with the rising costs of energy in the last year, many people may be cutting back and not using AC as much, even if they have it.

Bottom line is that computers are stable as said above.
 
I'm in southeast Texas and the temps eah day are well into the 90's... Even still my CPU temp never goes over 45-47... Yah, it's high, but I'm just keeping it cool enough to be stable thru the summer...
 
I have noticed the highest temps ever on my system today. Case temp reports at 36 C and processor at 58 C! System still seems stable however.
 
I'm also in SoCal (the San Fernando Valley) and I also had the highest CPU temps so far: 54C. I ordered a Thermalright SK6/Delta 60mm combo from plycon yesterday. Looks like that was a smart move.
 
Another thing I do if I need to is take the side panel off my case and put a room fan blowing on it. It really considerably decreases the temps!
 
I moved some wires around (ie: not in the path of my blowhole) and applied a fresh coat of heatsink grease and actually managed to drop about 7F 😀

At a 75F room temp I hit 98F with my $12 Coolermaster HSF cooling an AFFA 850 Athlon runnin 7.5x133 (granted that's because a 120mm Panaflow resides about 2" above the HSF)
 
I live in Melbourne, FL and I noticed my cpu temps went up at 2C at idle....in my SX830 cases with an 80mm intake fan and 80mm exhaust fan ...my cpu is a 1.2@1.4 with Alpha PAL6035...still stable though

I'd say your PC isn't locking up due to temperature. 50 degrees C is a bit warm but not enough to cause those problems. I'd expect there is something else going on. For example, when I first built my PC, I used a generic slotket adapter and my machine locked up hard constantly. Replaced that crappy slotket with a quality one from MSI and problems disappeared. You situation may be due to something else but temps of 50 proabably aren't to blame.
 
Weather definitely taking its toll on my cpu: 5-8 degrees C higher than one month ago. looking into a/c for computer room. 🙂
