I did some searching for stock online, and with some trial & error, here is what I was able to come up with:

Ordered 1 from cc for store pick-up. $179.99 less $100 MIR.

Ordered one from BB down the street. $179.99. No rebates.

When I got the BB e-mail confirmation, the price was lowered to $99.99. Not as good as $79.99, but not bad.

I called CC (1-800-the-city) and was told that with a copy of these e-mails, when I go in to pick up the drive, CC will pm to $99.99 with 110% guarantee, which comes to $91.99. I hope the online csr is correct.

Not as good as pm to $79.99, but I'll take it & be happy with it!
:)

I *believe* the difference is the one w/o the L has only a 1-year warranty (per scanned BB tag).

Last night after reading the thread, I went ahead and bought the drive for store pickup at $179.99. I downloaded Lizardboy's BB pricecard. During lunch I called three BBs in St. Louis and they were out of stock. After work I went to CC and a fresh CSR waited on me. She was just about to PM it when she looked at the price difference and decided to call back to the computer department. I thought, no way are they going to PM it now. A few minutes later, the sales manager appears, looks at the card and says to the CSR, go ahead and PM it. BB has a rebate on it, so we'll go ahead and do it. I was shocked to say the least. He went on and said that he had already matched it three times this week.

The CSR took $106.57 off my credit card for a total price of $85.25. I will send in my rebates tomorrow.

Thanks again Lizardboy!!!

glad it worked for you...now that someone has posted a receipt scan hopefully more people can get in on this deal
(something about posting a scan of my receipt just makes me nervous)

So... what do i do first? Do I buy them @ best buy, then pm to circut city, or the other way around? Also, would it work if i just went to circut city without buying anything first? Also, which store do the rebates print out at? lmk

Thanks

//EDit here's what happened
1) I went to the Westminster CC and they refused to PM it, though the cashier I dealt with looked like she'd happily PM it.
2) I went to CC in Boulder and they said they'd PM it, but the cashier refused to print off the rebate forms.
Now, my question is:

Do you think I can send in for the rebate using the CC online rebate form? Or should I just return it and try elsewhere?

BoyBlunder, yes I believe you can. Wait... unless the manager entered something on the computer that your ticket-number order is not valid for the rebate! Hmm... would they do that to the people that said they would take the PM over the rebates?

@ lizarboy: You could always just photochop out the personal info like the other guy who posted, I think it'd help us if you would :).

CC isn't ANAL about their online rebates just for online purchases and B&M just for B&M purcases, like BB is. I've used several CC online rebates for CC B&M purchases.

as long as retailers are willing to play the rebate game i've got no problem playing them against each other...don't advertise your great price match program if you're not going to honor it when it gets ugly

my 2 cents

lizardboy,

please read the policy carefully. It clearly say "advertised price only.." BB price tag is not an advertised price! It must be either online or print advertisement. Cant you understand english???

I'm all for saving money but being blind and losing english comprehension because of it is plain stupid.
Be an adult, deal with the rebate or wait for another deal.

here's what it says if you click on "advertised price only":

Advertised price - Any printed or electronically broadcast price that is verifiable and made available to the general public. Special offers or promotions do not qualify. This includes, but is not limited to, rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing

This is a verifiable price made available to the general public, there is no rebate, no special offer and no promotion - I think it's fair game. I also have no doubt that the legalese in their fine print gives them the ability to wiggle out if they want to, but I think with enough arguing and facts most people should have been able to get in on this deal on Sunday, just like I was able to.

sorry, but i've got to side with the liz' on this one. mir's are a major scam. basically the retailers are counting on being able to stiff most folks 'cause,
1) lots of people never send 'em in, or
2) they deny the rebate on flimsy grounds, or
3) they stall until you get tired of bugging them for it and give up.

i have received most rebates i apply for but only because i keep all records and hound the fulfillment companies. i am convinced there are several major rebates i never would have gotten if i hadn't been so persistent. currently i'm waiting for a rebate i sent in DECEMBER that was supposed to have been sent to me within 8-10 weeks! so, basically, if i can get a chance to stick it to one of the purveyors of this crappy, dishonest, setup, i will!

btw, awesten, i bought my drive at the boulder cc store on sunday, but the bb stores in westminster & broomfield are out of stock. how did you get 'em to do the pm? think i can pull it off? if not i think i'll just be returning it - i don't really need the extra space that much any way.

Yea are the ones at CC with an L at the end of model # and the ones at BB just end with T. CSR might have a fit about that when I goto try it hehe. Or could the ones at CC also have an L ? Or I could hope they'll believe me that its just warranty info.

just returned from 2 local CC's and they both refused to do the PM because the prices were both the same in the end. One of them actually looked up and printed out the price w/the rebates to show the cost was the same. The other store, a manager stepped up quickly and said we can't do it...others have already tried today. F**k'em. I'm going back next week to PM to another local computer store that has the WD 120GB 8MB drive for $129. At least that'll get me back another $50...and they won't have the rebate price to look at by next week. :p

I just walked up to the CC store with the printout of the BB price tag provided earlier and said I'd like to PM this. Westminster BB said they might be getting more in tomorrow, give them a call at 10am to double check (be persistant, they're a bunch of morons when it comes to answering the phone). It's possible you'll get the PM at a CC...no guarentees though. You may have to go to CC in westminster or south denver to get it. If you don't think you can get it, I'd say just return it. I for one think I can get it because I got the PM...we'll see though.
