50% off regular price. I ordered one and was amazed at the quality. It's got Grover tuners, the pickups sounds nearly as good as my Ibenez RG2550EX (little bit brighter, and a tad less sustain), and it's a rosewood neck. I see a lot of people on the forum getting those Squire guitar packages all the time, and this blows those cheepee guitars away! Shipping was only around $10 for me. If you need a good quality inexpensive axe, this would be the way to go:

Ive been thinking about getting back into guitars....good deal...I used to play a Peavy bass and spent $600 on that alone.
 
Not bad. At this price it's almost worth it to start playing again. Their reseller ratings aren't the greatest, but then again not everyone can be like Newegg. 😉

I've ordered stuff from Musician's Friend several times (they had some really hot deals going a couple of Decembers ago), and have had no bad experiences with them.

We sell the X20's at the store I manage. I can't even buy the guitars wholesale for this price! They are well worth the money for anyone looking for a decent entry level guitar, and easily blow away all those Squires and other no-name clones. I like the X21 with the Maple fingerboard, but for the price, it can't be beat.
 
I bought a Crown K2 Professional Power Amplifier and a Behringer DSP 1124P Feedback Destroyer Pro from them. Great experience. Even did a pricematch to some no-name yahoo shopping store with the Crown. First rate.

A couple of questions from a guy that has never played electric guitar (just played "with" an acoustic one):

- Any opinion about this Yamaha beginners kit?:
Yamaha

- If the Washburn is recommended against the Yamaha kit, what other things (as amplifier) should I buy and how much should I end up paying?

I've also had great experiences ordering guitars from them. No hassle pricematching and very good customer service. On one of my orders a piece was missing from a guitar stand; it took a quick phone call and a couple of days later they sent me another one with a few goodies thrown in for free. Thumbs up in my book.

I've never played Yamaha guitars, but that tremblo assembly doesn't look the best quality. Also, with a tremblo installed, you have to have good quality tuners or you'll go out of tune everytime you use it. The Washburn has Grover tuners....probably the best tuners out there.
 
It may be a good value, but it'll be a crappy guitar. No new guitar you can get for $100 or $200 is going to be worth the money. Save up and buy a guitar that you'll be happy with for 10 years, not 10 minutes. There are some decent Ibanez electrics in the $500 range, but personally I prefer a nice Gibson Les Paul.

And if you're looking to learn, acoustic would probably be much better to start out on. That way you don't have to mess with an amp. My first acoustic was a Seagull for around $300, and it was an ok guitar. Not great, but decent to start out on.
 
Hey guys, Musicians friend is an awesome retailer. I ordered an Ibanez electric guitar from them 1 year ago, and just picked an acoustic guitar from their ware house in kansas city. If instore you can bargain with them with their guitars and they are usaully good about it.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MUSICANS FRIEND.

While I would agree with you on buying a higher quality product, I would not recommend anyone going out and purchasing a $500 Ibanez or a much more expensive Les Paul for beginners. To suggest that is nuts. I'd say 9 times out of 10 people buy this stuff and it sits and collects dust. This is a great buy on a starter axe, and I'm tempted to buy one just to beat on around the house. You can't compare a $99 guitar to a $500+ guitar. Two totally different things. Think of a comparison between a Geforce MX440 and a Radeon 9800XT. Same thing. One works, and is much cheaper, but the other works better but cost 5x-10x as much. But if you only need to see your desktop, not "shred" on games, why would you spend $400? Same thing applies here.

I highly recommend Musicans Friend, they've been around forever and typically have good buys on many products.

What are you talking about? I wouldn't have posted it if this was a crappy guitar. I've been playing for 22 years now (5 of those professionally) and posted this because the X20 has great pickups, a decent neck, and high quality tuners all for $99 (hell, the Grovers on my LP set me back $70 alone). I find it funny that you think becuase it's not expensive it must sound terrible. I will recommend the X20 to anyone as a starter or a backup guitar. After playing it for a few days now I like it even more. I bought it for my daughter because she was having a hard time learning on her acoustic.

Also, as for learning on an acoustic, I think that is why most people drop guitar lessons within the first or second lesson. Uncalloused fingers plus high gauge strings = a whole lot of finger pain. I'm moving her to electric to start so she can build her fingers up first, then she can move to an acoustic where needed (then 12 string and my mandolin if she wants 🙂 ). It doesn't matter what you learn on, and the softer tension on an electric will allow her to practice longer. I started on an acoustic and remember having to stop every 10-15 minutes becuase my finger tips were turning black and blue. Almost quit because of it, but all my friends were playing too, so I had to keep competing 🙂

How does this compare to the Ibanez GRX40? I was thinking of picking up the JS40 starter pack, since I don't have a clue about guitars or amps.

Isn't that Ibenez's low end line? I think they'd be about the same quality.
 
It should. Phantom power is usually used on mic's, but a pickup is essentially a type of mic, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
