IT's an alright netbook. Keyboard is easy to type on, screen is easier to read than a 9", and it has a solid feel to the build. The only issues I have with it are that it is kinda slow with an hard drive rather than ssd, and that it doesn't come with any recovery disks. Ohh, Also the CTRL key is not in the bottom left corner, the FN key is there. So if you rely on hitting ctrl+enter in IE or FF you'll find that really annoying until you get used to it... I still haven't.

3.5/5 IMO.

I have it,love it and the only one I would trade it for is the 10.2" HP - even better keyboard(but $449+) - $299 for the S10 is a great deal - I paid close to $400 even with discounts -albeit in October

i think the ultimate netbook at this point is the hp 2140 with the HD screen in march or whenever it comes out.

that said, i originally wanted an S10 and ordered it during the first s10 deal at lenovo.com (i even posted the deal here) but lenovo took forever to ship and ended up getting a wind. the wind felt fairly cheap, and hte keyboard wasnt as good (i had first tried the s10 at the intel dev forum).

good thing this deal came along.

I'm holding out for some US models to include a built in optical drive. I don't want to have to rip movies to watch them when traveling. The one in Japan with the touchscreen and optical drive is pretty cool, but too much money. Basically portable DVD + wordprocessing & web would be ideal for me.

2.5" sata drive I believe, up to 2gb ram (I bought the cheapest shipped on Newegg and it works fine), 6 cell is available but expensive.

whats unfortunate is on the lenovo ordering page, the one with blue tooth , 1gb of ram and a 6 cell battery is $50 more. however its not $50 more at most stores.

it has 1 dimm slot that is easy to access, and you can stick a 2gb dimm there (and then the 512mb onboard will not work). at least the slot is easy to access its pretty hard to get to on some of the other netbooks.

Spinning drive decreases battery life :). There is a reason why it wasn't included in the design besides weight. I myself got a Samsung NC10.

just got my s10e.

i sold my wind last week. the s10e honestly feels much more expensive. it looks more expensive. I saw the original S10 at a conference, and ths S10e has a glossy screen instead of normal matte. Could be a deal breaker for some. But it feels even more expensive as the back of the screen has been given a very nice glazed marble looking coat. the orignal s10 i saw was just normal flat plastic.

Adding an optical drive would defeat its purpose of an netbook since it'd add extra significant weight to it.
If then you would want a small 12/13 inc notebook that comes with a optical drive.
Just my 2c.

I pass on this one since it is 512mb plus 3 cell battery.

I'm really tempted to get one of these but I seriously have no use for it. I purchased a MSI Wind after I sold my last laptop (Dell M1210) and after playing with OS X for a bit, I decided to get a real Mac. I now have a fairly new Macbook (Aluminum) but it stays docked 90% of the time.

Why do I still want one? Argh!
