I saw in walmart that Apex AD-5131 sell for under $60. Maybe YMMV because they put online for $79 🙂

Here's some technical resources on the player including detailed user reviews and compatability with media and format types:

Looks like a dope player, since this one plays PAL + NTSC, is region free (with some new firmware).

Only minus is that it doesnt suppport 5.1 audio.

If I were buying one, i'd go for the AD-2500
($60 @ Amazon: LINK )

it has progressive scan, supports DD 5.1 audio ++ all the apex coolness

Some of the apex models have started to pull the (s)vcd playback if thats an important feature for you.

I've had my 5131 for a year now. It's rather bulky, and somewhat cheap looking, but it handles basically everything I've thrown at it. Really is quite a nice value player.

Another minus I feel is the remote sensitivity, it needs to be aimed just right in order for it to work, but I'm still pleased with it.

Whatchu talkin bout, Willis? The Amazon page for this player shows "Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel digital output (for immersive surround sound when used with a compatible AV receiver)"

Now, when they say it plays NTSC and PAL, does that mean you can play PAL video on an NTSC TV and vice versa?
