I'd rather have a 1366x768 Plasma over a 37" 1080P lcd any day of the week. SD on a LCD looks super crappy and looks great on a plasma.

you are making blanket statements that are not entirely correct. to make the situation even worse is that the stores feed different sets different quality of feeds which leads others to feel much different than you do. the real test is when you get it home and how it is to your liking, what i may like you may not, too bad they are such a pain in the a$$ to move around and back to the store again to actually try them out in your enviornment.

I bought a 42" Samsung Plasma about 6 months ago. I researched LCD's and Plasma's for about 2 months trying to decide if the price difference between the two was worth it. I eventually decided that I had to have Plasma. Biggest reason for me? I love horror movies and the difference in blacks between the LCD and Plasma are shocking (at least to my eye). To me, the black of an LCD is more like a darker grey. The black of an LCD is actually black. I am not disapointed with my choice. I have DirecTV's NFL Superfan and the football games on my TV look absolutely stunning. When comparing these to NFL games on LCD's my friends have there is no comparison.

Oh, and a friend of mine just bought a 50" DLP about 2 months ago. He came to my house this past weekend and we we're watching hockey and he said..."So, this is a Plasma huh?". I told him how much I liked it compared to other LCD's due to the difference in blacks and the colors in general seem crisper. He just said, "Yeah..." and didn't say anything else. I didn't push it since I knew he just bought a DLP, but I could tell he was thinking he should of gone Plasma...:) Easy to read that look, as I've had it over various things in the past ;-)

That being said, if your budget can't afford the plasma, I don't want you to think LCD's or DLP's are bad, they still look very nice.

It's really a matter of budget, the more money you can budget for the purchase, the higher quality TV you can get.

I'm not interested in playing the flaming game. But be for I purchased the rear projection, I talked to the service desk and then a manager about warrenty and return for a better model, specifically asking if return could be for any reason. They said absolutly yes and the mgr even said you don't have to have ANY reason.

My concern was with no warrenty available and that is why the mgr said they are so liberal. So not doing anything underhanded!

What is being changed? Are they adding HDTV's to the 6 month computer list? Guess I better go buy this TV now so I can take it back next year. Maybe I can get a couple exchanges in.

Everything will be coming down by the end of the year. 50" 1080P Plasma's will be more affordable by this time next year! At least we hope...!

From what I have seen, a flat panel LCD is generally more expensive than a plasma of comparable size, so I don't really understand that reasoning.

All in part to resolution! However, there are a few more factors, but resolution is the top selling feature of LCD's. Plasma's look better IMO, but it boils down to personal preference, price, and size for most people.

Rage,
Most manufacturers are now at the same price point as the Vizio now, even though Vizio had them beat a year ago. I believe that we as consumers have not met the demand of 50" plasma's to have manufacturers lower their prices on these models yet. By next year of 2007, we should be able to get a 50" plasma for around $1500 (on average). 42" models will be affordable under $1K. Also 37" and 42" Plasma are more affordable for most consumers, thus the demand is higher and the prices are lower. I believe we will find 60" models will be close in range to $2500-$3500 shortly. It will take Vizio to manufacture a 60" model to help lower the prices on these and every model that is produced from all manufacturers. Their is not a huge demand for these models, so they are able to keep the prices high on these models for now.

Now the big proposition I am looking forward to is 1080p in 50" - 60" plamsa at an affordable price. This probably will not happen until around early/mid 2008. Every Panasonic, LG, Vizio that we purchase with a resolution under 1080p are considered out-dated. However, we can not afford an $8k-10k 1080p plasma. So we as consumers have to be content with what we can afford right now.
