ok my max core clock was 212 but I replaced the fan with a 12v blue orb chipset fan with artic silver and i can now get 219 on the core! the original fan is crazy glued on the chip, WTF! the down side is i got a 7ns rev B card but i am stilll getting 383 from the memory! I am gona put some heat sinks on the mem top see what i can get it to push. what are you guys with the 5.5ns ram getting, It must be higher than my 383mhz or is the memory capped out somewhere in the card?

i paid $52 for the card and got 5.5ns. i can go as high as 215/365 for better performance. if i increase core speed alone, i can hit 230. no alteration on the card. good for the money. may switch to GeForce3 Ti 200, which is also very overclockable. 3DMark2001 is 3471 on win2k(1024/768/32) on athlon xp 1500/2x256 crucial.

I bought this card last week and it came with the 5.5ns RAM. I had no probs running it at 210/350 (didn't try any higher).

If someone's looking for this card you can have mine. I've decided to treat myself to a ti200. I'll sell it at the price I paid for it, $56 shipped.

PMs work best.

Hey, what utility are you guys using to OC this card? If you have it handy, please provide a link.

Thanks.

I put together a set of files (and instructions) to quickly/easily flash the BIOS on mine, defaulted the card to higher speeds.

Anybody wanting to flash their BIOS, can use this (at your own risk of course): BIOS Mod

what does this BIOS do, just set it to Regular GTS settings????

Also where can you get BIOS updates for GeForce Cards?

From the websites i saw, my BIOS (v3.15.01.03.01) is newer than any they had.

IF you want to edit your BIOS, you can change the vendor ID (maybe use some fancier drivers/apps from, ahem, 3rd parties). Also Sideband Addressing could be enabled (would possibly gain a little performance but maybe less compatible or stable, especially if the card is on an overclocked AGP bus).

I included a few different pre-modded BIOS with a few different core/mem settings, no other changes made...
core 220 mem 188, c215 m183, c210 m185, c210 m175, c200 m180, c200 m170, c200 m166, c190 m160.

IIRC, the Core 200 mem 166 would be a "normal" GTS.

Any thoughts on whether it's worth upgrading from a VisionTek Xtasy 5564 (64 MB MX400 PCI) to the 5632? I have an Xtasy 5564 that I picked up from Ubid, but am wondering whether it's worth it to sell the card and purchase the 5632, considering the 5564 has 64MB of memory (although it is also PCI and MX400). Either way, the card would be more of a holdover until the GF4s come down in price later this year. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

From what I read here - I would not be disappointed if you receive the 7ns version of the card - they would appear to be clocking pretty high as it is!

I have the 5.5ns version and I backed down to 330 due to very mild snow effects in 3DMark.

I have a Winfast GF2 Pro with 5.5ns RAM that overclocks to 465 without any snow etc - not sure how this GTS-V card rates the RAM at 5.5ns if it's only going upto 330? The 7ns cards seem to be getting way past that figure.

aircasper,
whats the going rate for an MX PCI card? I have a buddy that might be interested in one as he has an intel 810 chipset (no agp) motherboard.

hey gtd, the best place to get the pci mx400 is through ubid (generally you can get them for around $54 plus shipping), which is much better than the $99 or so that it's sold at through the stores. i'm trying to figure out whether i should sell the pci mx400 on fleabay or whether i should just keep it as a temporary card until the low-end gf4 ti comes out.

aircasper- I'd sell it. There are definitely people out there looking for PCI cards. You may break even on the transaction or it may just cost you a couple of bucks to get the 5632. The DDR memory on this card, coupled with it's over-clocking ability really makes this thing fly....very impressive. And besides, who knows when the GeForce4 cards will come down in price to an acceptable level.

I ordered my 5632 on 2/12 and received the 5.5 memory. Maybe you will also.

The DDR on these boards probable needs more voltage to get to a higher spec. Anybody know if you can up the voltage with out welding on the Board itself, Like adjusting something in the BIOS like a motherboard???

From personal experience I have never upgraded a card and noticed a HUGE difference - or even one that really required an upgrade for useable real life gaming. (I tend to game at 1024x768 and am not really too bothered about 32bit colour.) I also tended to play CS all the time and an MX is a fantastic card for that particular game.

The best value upgrade I ever did was GF256 to GF2 MX. Managed to sell the GF256 for more than the price of the MX :D

If I didn't have the GF2 MX (previously) or the GF2 Pro - I'd probably have been very impressed with the performance of the GTS-V card ;)

The impressive thing about the GTS-V is the price - thats what I find good about it - as well as decent performance.

If you can sell your PCI MX card then that would be the best idea - it will not normally go up in value. However, if you have another non-AGP board you can use it in - you are probably better off keeping it for now.

it's interesting how people with 5.5ns ram aren't o/cing as well as the 7ns ones.

by theory, shouldn't 5.5 be able to reach somewhere in the 400's?
no?

i got this gts-v when it first came out at newegg.
and of course, mine is 7ns.

i ordered two of these ... and with both, i can easily hit 215/360.
i think i can go higher... but haven't tried.

how come 5.5ns rams are having hard time hitting 200/340?

gtd- I'd agree with you.....it really is a price\performance thing. Sure, it's not an 8500, but then again it's not ment to be.

All I know is that my 3DMark2001 more that tripled using all default settings. The test ran smooth, not choppy like my pervious card, a TNT2 32 megs of memory.

I think it's a heck of a buy.

<< how come 5.5ns rams are having hard time hitting 200/340? >>

I am running my 5.5ns at 366MHz with a core speed of 210MHz. The core runs fine at 220, but I don't see a huge performance difference so I leave it at 210. I have never tried to run the core past 220MHz. At these settings, the card is works great. If I clock the memory at 380 or more, I get lots of picture quality problems.

Maybe Visiontek buys the RAM in lots with 7ns. Maybe they buy "on-spec" 7ns and "off-spec" 5.5ns for the same price. That would help explain why the performance of the 5.5ns varies so greatly.

amploud- Anything's possible. They could be installing off-spec 5.5 DDR memory, but I doubt it, unless of course they all do it. If word ever got out that Visiontek did this, could you imagine the words coming out of their competitor's mouths? But then again, anything's possible.

The first thought that I came up with is that maybe the 5.5 chips run hotter than the 7 chips......but I really don't know.

ok - i took the plunge. upgrading from a Matrox G200 on my PII-350. I guess that should be a nice bump up in 3d performance and games. hoping I'll get the 5.5's.
