BB in Hawthorne, CA had a mess of SE's. gamer gift card is near the video game register, not in the gift card rack up front.

No SE in Minnesota. I'm in Rochester, went 2 hours after the store opened, all 10 copies were gone. Had the guy call all bestbuys within 100 miles...all sold out

Ordered SE from BB.com roughly 20 mins after they started offering.
Status: Backordered.
Anyone know what the story is ?

They had 1 SE on the shelf and 4 on the counter being held for customers, one of which was mine. Probably should have grabbed another one to sell on ebay.

Also got mine at the Best Buy in Hawthorne, CA. Got there at a little before 10am and they were already open. There were 3 SE's when i got there. I picked one up at the same time as another guy did. There was 1 copy left when I headed for the register. Gamers GC worked for me as well.

I got one at the Best Buy in E. Palo Alto, CA around 10:30am. There was only one SE left, according to the sales rep. I think it was totally worth finding the SE version (I had already stopped by CompUSA & Fry's).

I went to check the local BB, sold out... I'll have to wait on BB online to ship... I picked up R6 Athena Sword instead, and the kid at the counter carded me to see if I was 18 (I'm 35). LOL.

I went to the local BB this morning. I was the first customer in the store and UT2004 was sold out. The clerk said that it came in on Tuesday 3/16 and sold out that day. Their ad clearly stated available Thursday 3/18 and there would be at least 10 in each store. The clerk just said sorry.

Well, its just a game but BB blew it again.

I did get the non SE version elsewhere.

I went over to my local Best Buy and they were of course sold out on the special edition version. They were almost sold out on the regular version too. They should be sold out within an hour.

So I grabbed the regular 6-freakin-CD version. I would've liked the SE just for the easier install.

went to best buy in cerritos,ca. they had a rack full of SE and regular when i arrived there at 10AM. used giftcard to save 5 bucks. total was like 32 - 5, so like 27 bucks.

What are the odds that atari releases a non-special edition DVD of this game? 6 CDs just seems ridiculous, and there is no way I'm giving any of those fleabayers that bought all 10 at my best buy any of my hard earned money to get a DVD edition.

I read online that there are only 200,000 copies of the special edition, so once they're gone, they're gone, ebay is the only option now. What surprises me is that my best buy only had 10 copies of the 6 CD version, and all of those were gone by lunch time! I'm saving my money for Doom 3 and half life 2. Atari sucks for distributing this game terribly. Activision will do much better for Doom 3! Time to figure out this bittorrent stuff.

Well, isn't this special. First they put the SE version online and allow preorders. Then they cancel our online orders. So I go to the B&M store this morning with a friend when they first open. When we walk up to the display someone else is already there asking one of the clerks about the SE version. Clerk says, sorry, we are sold out. They came in yesterday and we put them out. I jumped in and pointed to the ad with the 3/18 available date. Sorry, he says. The guy already there says he drove up from Tuscalusa (an hour drive) just to get the SE version. So I chew on the clerk a little while. Then he says they will give us a raincheck even though it says no raincheck on the ad. We go to the customer service counter and the CSR actually creates a raincheck for us. By this time I knew it was useless since this was a limited edition and probably would not get anymore in. I go ahead I buy the standard version. On the way out a manager just happens to stop us and ask if we found everything we were looking for. Heh, I lit into him with this crap and he was clueless. He calls one of his software guys and he tells the manager that software does not have a "street date" like DVDs and CD where they can be fined big bucks if they put it out early so they can put software out early. Manager says sorry. I say, yes, this is a sorry place to shop.


The moral of this story is that when BB has a sale on newly released software don't believe the realease date if it's during the week. Always check before the release date. Some of us apparently knew this but most did not.

Ugh tell me about it. I live in Brooklyn. First I called 86th & Lex BB, "yes we have a few left". 3 hours later when I got there they were sold out. Went back home and called Long Island City BB (Queens), "yes we have a bunch left", went there right away came there (1 hour subway) and they were sold out and turns out the idiot didn't understand what special edition dvd set meant and thought I wanted the regular. So now I came back. So a whole f*cking day of running around and still no UT2k4 (I didn't wanna get the reg edition).
