This is a hot deal (especially if you need a credit card), it is worth the hassle (about 30-45 minutes of your time total) and it has worked for me.

kind of taken from this old thread

Apply for the united Airlines Mileage plus card and get 15,000 miles after one purchase. ($60 fee for the card)
Add 2 authorized users and get 5000 bonus miles (no fee; no charges need to be made on the cards)
Upgrade to gold card for $25 and get 5000 miles

This gives you 25,000 miles for $85 dollars. 25,000 miles is enough for a free ticket in the continental United States. It takes about 1 week to get the card and 6-8 weeks after your first bill for all the miles to be issued to your account. After that point you can cancel the card because the miles will be in your united frequent flyer account.

You can also get 5000 miles for each referral you give, if you have a friend with the card use their info when getting yours. If you feel like mentioning my frequent flyer number PM me for the info but I am not posting this for the referral. This is a hot deal if you travel at all. No I do not work for United.

You also get 1000 miles for signing up to see your bill online
You get 2000 free miles if you sample the first protect program and call up to cancel it in the first 30 days.
(3000 additional miles is enough for a year of Sports Illustrated)

This has been a good credit card and I am happy with it.

Other notes:
You can sign up for a united frequent flyer account online if you do not have one already

Call 1-888-438-5650. to sign up for the card
Call 1-800-537-7783. to upgrade your card or to request additional cards.

edit - you also get 1 mile per dollar charged

Thanks!

A co-worker told me about United's $1200 special from Portland, Oregon to LA to Sydney, Australia

We are both currently enrolled in United's frequent flier program, add these 25,000 miles plus the actual trip miles :p

And then you can buy all of your hot deals that have rebates on the card and get miles on the entire purchase amount before rebate.

Chase Travel Rewards It's $25 bucks a year, 25,000 points for a US roundtrip ticket. I haven't used it yet, but I did call up and did a trial run. All I had to do was the give the OK, and I would have had an e-ticket, very easy. And I was told no blackout dates, good on any airline. You can also use your points for rental cars, hotels, and other things. They also have a Dining Rewards program if that's your thing.

I have a Chase Platinum Visa (no annual fee) and they offered this program to me a few months after I had the card, but from the looks of the enrollment form, they ask for your Chase CC#, so I would guess that you could have any version of a Chase card.

AMEX Blue has a points-based rewards system on their card as well. These can be transferred to Delta SkyMiles and I'm sure the rest of them as well. I'm trying to rack up as many miles as possible for flights next year. My only prob is that United doesn't fly out of my city... ;)
