The description says that it is for Optiplex computers. I don't know if there is a difference between cards designated as "for Optiplex" and cards not designated for Dell computers. LINK
There is also a REFURBISHED Santa Cruz card (card only, no cables or drivers) listed at $49.95. LINK
I bought the retail verison of the card a few weeks ago for $71.65 (including 20% off, Sales Tax: $4.69, Shipping and/or Handling: $7.00) from the Dell Medium to Large Business store. The card is listed at $71.99. LINK
It says it's a PCI card, and comes with drivers and utilities, so I suspect it's the same thing as the retail card. It even shows the retail package. If I get it and it doesn't do the job I will Egay it or send it back.
Great deal, just FYI, this is an OEM card, not the retail version they show in the picture.
Can anyone comment on the differences between the OEM and retail versions? (i.e. TB's site says not to use their drivers with the Dell card, so is there a difference?)
I bought this last week through the previous thread. It is OEM, same part# that I got. It comes with CD cable, drivers, and Santa Cruz control panel - presets, mixer, eq, ... It doesn't include the other software that comes with the retail version.
The TB drivers work fine with it. The only reason they refer you to Dell is because they have a special deal set up where Dell is handling all the support issues with the cards they sell.
Did anyone manage to get this?
Its not a 'Home & Home Office' product and the 20% off is only for Home & Home office so I dont think this deal works...
I picked up this card (retail) at www.accessmicro.com for $69 (US). It's not 59, but its retail. The card is fantastic (much better than my sblive x-gamer) under win2k pro. I don't know the differences, but I prefer retail because turtle beach doesn't support oem hardware (thats why dell...etc sell it so cheap).
The 20% off DOES apply to this card... you can go to checkout and see that it puts in a 20% credit. Just don't know if buying oem will cause problems with future support/drivers etc
The actual board itself is supposed to be physically identical to the board they sell retail.. as someone else pointed out the reason that they point you to Dell for support is that they won't provide warranty or tech support on the cards.
I talked to a guy who was Egaying these cards after pulling them from Dell computers and he said it's the exact same board.
All future drivers would be completely compatible.
It depends, many have had stability and other probs with SB Live in Win2K. SB Live also has inefficient use of the PCI bus and is known to cause probs with things like chipset driver installation.... but if you want to discuss different sound cards I would take it off the hot deals forum.
So, does anyone actually have proof that the cards are identical? (I mean other than the guy off ebay's word for it?) As much as I'd like to believe everyone on Ebay...
Is there any review of the Dell card that shows them to be the same? I've been looking for the TB card, and at this price I can live w/o the box if they really are identical.
