45 CDs - 0.5GB iPod Shuffle
65 CDs - 1GB iPod Shuffle
85 CDs - 2GB iPod Nano
110 CDs - 4GB iPod Nano
130 CDs - 30GB iPod
175 CDs - 60GB iPod

That's pretty retarded. I can usually get $4-5 for my used CDs. If I was to sell them myself for even $4 each and I want the 4GB nano....

$4 x 110 CDs = $440.

Even at $3 per used CD x 110 CDs = $330.

A 4GB nano retails for $249.

You do the math on the others.

there must be a ton of shipping on 175 cd's with jewel cases. for the price it would cost to ship 175 cd's I could build a delorian and sell my cd's back in 1985. heh.
 
Yes, but it looks like their business model/recommendation is a clear violation of copyright laws.

1. Buy CD.
2. Rip CD to digital format for iPod or similar.
3. Sell CD as used.

The violation is keeping the digital format after selling the CD. "Fair use" is using content you own in any format you wish. Once you sell the CD (or DVD or VHS tape or cassette or whatever) your rights to the copies go with the original.

Course then I bet they will be like half of your collection is not up to their "standards"
 
Yeah, I see this on Craigs List a lot. At worst, it's a scam. At best, it's not only a questionable deal money-wise, but possibly illegal.

Agreed. Don't throw out your cd's because of new technology. That's rediculous.

What I don't get is why people pay a buck a song for a compressed mp3 download. Are people insane? For just about the same money, you can get the jewel case, liner notes and artwork, a song list, lyrics and most importantly, the music in an uncompressed format.
 
I think it's not bad if it's not a scam. To be honest, I won't bother to sell my CD collection for $3-4 a CD. who have time to do that? If I just sell the whole thing on ebay, I don't think there would be much bids because no one will like every CDs I own.

Because you aren't forced to buy the $hitty B-side songs on the album w/ iTunes, only the one(s) you like.
 
I have over 300 cd's floating around my house which I am not listening to. This would be a "good" deal for me if I could get them all accepted but since Ihave ripped them I can't send them in due to copyright laws..bummer 🙂

I've heard that argument a lot, and I guess it makes sense if you listen to crappy one-hit-wonder pop bands. Most of the bands I listen to have several good songs per CD, so it's not usually an issue. 😉

So, it's at there discretion wether or not they accept your preowned collection. I have so many non-quality titles to unload.

Hell, what do I need an iPod for anyways, I've got CDs!
 
record exchange and other used cd stores have shelves full of .50 and $1 cds... some of it is crap they probably won't take, but a good chunk is just stuff that they can't sell locally because everybody has it already and it was popular a while ago

if you went to a few locations and knew what to look for you could probably find $130 or so worth of cds that would get you a 60GB ipod.

that is if their quality qualifications are really what they say they are. I suppose you could just return the ones they don't take and keep trying with .50 discs till they take enough.
 
LOL, has anyone used their calculator on the website? Put in 1 or 2 cds, you have to pay more then the retail price they show!
 
if you look at their " quality standards' then you will see that this is just going to end up costing you money..i will wait to see how someone else fares...they are just going to claim a bunch of the cds are only worth half etc..
