Been debating whether to get one of these or not.. great price..

but most schools seem NOT to allow calculators on tests so you can't really use them to check your work during those times.

i'm thinking of getting a calculator to check my homework with though, and this is where I think the 83+ might fall short in college math courses, so i'm leaning towards getting an 89 or an HP 49g+... tempted to get the 83+ though
since the price is right.

Ouch - I remember paying about $150 for one like this about 10 years ago! (actually, it had a lot less features!)

Actually, you're wrong about the 83 falling short, unless you cant do a simple derivitive/integral yourself....which, in that case, you shouldnt even be in college math courses.

A post by someone else earlier in thread:

it is only pointless if the teacher never taught the students how to derive and integrate, but there will come a time when integrating an equation will be too long, and as long as the teacher taught the students the basics of how to derive and integrate then it should be fine for students to move on and use calculators (although i do acknowledge with lack of practicing of integrating it'll eventually slip out of your memory on how to do it).

if you're a Comp Sci major go ahead and buy the TI 89 for your calculus and physics classes, less than half you've learned will be involved in your field anyways hehehe (that's what i heard)

Engineering student here, 89 is superior to the 83 since it can do linear algebra and symbolic algebra (including calculas). Its a little weak in the diff-eq section and not quite maple-strong in linear algebra, but it works fine for them...probably more than needed for HS though, I think I used the 83 back in HS

Pretty newbish question for this calulator: Can this do 100! (factorial) and higher problems? My current cheapie calulator gets an error every time I punch in 100!.

Does anyone have a printout of the page? The price went back up to 99.99 online. I ordered one but some people I work with wanted a couple so I was wondering if I could into the store and PM their online order if I could get a printout. Any help would be appreciated.

If I understand the question right then it looks like it can't do them. I just tried on my 83 and anything over 69! it gave an error. My 89 did over 100! though.

:brokenheart:Looks like the price is up for good. Got sick last week and didn't make it out to the store to pick one up. Should have orderred it on the web but missed out. My goof!

Gets me really angry when the store folks tell you it never was "that low". Morons! No wonder I never buy anything there anymore.
