OK this is the first hot deal I've posted that actually seems hot. 🙂

Buy.com has TDK 50pk spindles of 80 minute CDRs for $10.95.

They have a rebate (not published on their site, though) for $10 MIR, up to 3 per address. Expires 3/31/2002. Link

Shipping for 3 to me came to about $10. Also, they seem to be on backorder at the moment.

Let me know how this is?
 
Good deal. When you get them can you please post if they are made in Japan or not. Also, I'm sure people will yell at you for not including the shipping in the price calculation.

i hear TDK does not manufacture their brand cdrs anymore.. correct me if im wrong.. now they have Ritek in asia manufacture it for them.. Ritek is one of the leading manufactures who make no name cds.. they also make the cdrs for a few such as memorex..
 
TDK CDR's are made both by Ritek and Taiyo Yuden, the latter being the best CDR maker out there.

If these are "Made in Japan" and have the screw-top spindle lock, they are TY. If they are made in Taiwan, they are Ritek.

make sure you send the rebates in individual envelopes, they wont take all 3 in 1 letter.

150 cd's for $42 alone is already a good deal, and for $15'ish after rebate its really hot.

Update:: All three spindles were 32x CMC Magnetics. Not TY's, but still decent.

Nero infodrive reported they were CNG magtronics (or whatever they're called, I'm at work and thats all I remember). Definatley not TY's, but still decent and rated for 32x

Rebate just calls for 50pk CDR80. The 24x as well as the 32x are CDR80. It's the numbers after that where the speed is specified. As such, it's reasonable to expect that any CDR80 labeled CDRs should qualify.

Just found the rebate the other day though, which makes it rather hot.
 
Mom picked up a 100 pack spindle of TDK 32x at Costco last night for like $20 I think. Made in Japan, but no screw top. Just a plastic spindle cover with a little foam like spacer on top of all the CDs...I guess it resembles the screw top =P.
 
Note: if it's the same limit 3 rebate I used around Xmas, they only go by the UPC symbol which was the exact same for 16x and 24x spindles, so I wouldn't be surprised if the 32x had the same UPC, thus being good. I sent in for 2 of those rebates and got them both in a decent time.

QUESTION: I got the gray bottom spindles that turned out to be Riteks. Are these really crap as many have said? CDRIdentifier has them listed as Ritek LONG strategy. Letters from TDK state they make them follow stricter guidelines for doing their CDR's compared to other clients. BS or not?
 
I don't think I've ever used Riteks, I have nearly always used Imations that are CMC magnetics as well. They work fine for me.
 
Back in stock - just ordered three for a total shipped of $42.30. If the rebate holds true that will be 150 for $12.30 which is about 8.2 cents per disc.

The only thing that bothers me is that the rebate shows TDK 24x, but these are 32x. On the other hand the rebate stipulates TDK CD-R80 and the number on this item is CD-R80HXCB50 so I guess it's good.

Must be purchased before or on 3/31/02 to get rebate.

I've used the Ritec TDK disks and I've had no problems with them, but I still prefer the TDK made in USA disks for the slightly diferent color and have never seen the TYs.
Also I am quite sure that 24x and 32x do not matter as I've had other rebates and the speeds did not matter and actualy, I'm not sure, but the UPC code for both speeds may actualy be the same as they were in a former rebate so there should not be problems anyways.
