Compgeeks have a package including mid tower case, floppy drive, keyboard,
mouse, speakers and 48x cd drive for $57. Use 10% mastercard discount
shipping is $17 UPS ground. Totals around $68 shipped. CD is refurb
but 1yr warranty.
Im putting in 1.2 Ghz w/cheap mobo, gforce2 mx, 128mb ram, 20gb HDD
totals less than $400 for a nice little gamer. See PW for prices on
my other components. Ssssssmoking Hot!!

Yeah very "budget."

Things to watch out for:
Case" is "flimsy" if you sat on it.. It would die. Not a good case if you change cards, etc.
Speakers: are very dull sounding. Pick up on one of the hot deals to upgrade to a "decent" sounding system.
Mouse: Very cheap and no wheel?
CDrom drive: Very loud. And with most no name brands. It'll probably die within a year.

This is a great starter set for a second computer. I did something similar with some spare parts I had and now the kids have a great computer.

Doesn't look too bad, might have to jump on this, my parents have been wanting to upgrade from they're 200MMX, and even though they don't need the new keyboard and mouse, the total is about the same as the cost of just a case.

The only really bad thing is it only has a 250W power supply:frown:.

Mr.Newt,
You are a savoir. This is one of the hottest deals I have ever seen on here. I have been looking for a setup like this for over a year!
The price is unbelievable. I might get two of them. From what I read ,the quality of these items are top notch. I thank you and my family thanks you! If you find anymore steals like this, please let us know.

regards - daubs

I went through and ordered it as well. Good post.. but it came up to $74 with ground shipping.

57+17 = 74

That's not $68.

Might want to think about editing the posting so people don't come in thinking it's $68. 🙂

Oh, and be careful with adding anything on to your order. I tried putting a few little things on with the initial order and it bumped the shipping for ground up from $17 to $24 ground... and it made the other estimates $46-$100... $100 being next-day air.

Just some things to keep in mind.

I've gotten a couple of these cheap cases from compgeeks before.

They ARE very thin & rather flimsy, but really they aren't THAT bad. You have easy access to your cards...just the CPU may be difficult to get it because of the awkward placement of the PS. I use this case for my backup system. I have not had any problems with the power supply running an 810 system with a Voodoo3 & an overclocked C2 in it. I think I paid about $30 shipped for each of the cases & haven't been disappointed considering the price.

Most of the components, including case, are still in stock.

FYI, if you have some of the components it is cheaper to just buy the ones you need.

Hows this cheap system builders:

Intel 810 mobo w/creative labs sound @ geeks for $39
Celly 566 retail w/HS&FAN $47

I have keyboard, mouse, & free after rebate CD-ROM
So:
Genica case..........$18.75
Genica speakers........4.50
refurb floppy..........9.00
810 mobo w/sound......39.00
Celly 566 FC w/HS&FAN.47.00

Total................106.43

Shipping.............~20.00

Bottom line..........126.43

That's getting close to a whole system.
Just add RAM, HD, modem, monitor, OS, am I forgetting anything?

I have one of the cheap cases too. They are flimsy and the clearance is limited between the PS and Mobo. Houses my PPro Linux system.

Mine came with an Antec power supply 🙂

I have a bunch of these, one for my system (athlon 1ghz@1.4ghz), one for my sisters (celeron 533), 1 for my friend (athlon 750 slot a), 2 for my servers (celeron 466@525), and I just ordered 2 more for another server or two. Overall quality is actually suprisingly good, not great, but good, no cut fingers yet, and structural stability isn't as bad as some say, but I still wouldn't reccomend sitting on it. I mostly use my own PS with these, but I used the 230 for my friends comp and my 2 servers, and I haven't had any problems yet (these have only been around a few months though)

If they are the same generic cases they were selling last year my 2 kids have one each and they have been on 24/7 dsl over 15 months and never a problem.

Hey Newt..

Great post, but can you re-edit your post and remove the coupon code.. they aren't allowed here 😉

other than that, great deal, and welcome to the hot deals forum..

but remember, you're only as good as your last deal 😉

cheers,
