I've asked a few times if the H4 is a 9004, but never got an answer.

What do you know, my ex-GF just called and said both her SS's went one night after the other! She had to drive with just her fog lights. She went back to where we bought them and they gave her the money back on them, and put the old ones back in. I just put them in for her back around August or Sept or so, and I was very careful not to touch them. I even used rubber gloves.
I'll never buy any more SS's. I may even remove mine. And I have some H3 SS's I never even installed.

It's not even worth the $10.88/pair since you have the chance of them going out while your out driving around, which will get you pulled over quickly. And the time you have to take to swap them out.

I can't remember, do the Phillips HV's burn out this quickly?

Dammit, when will they make these in an H4 size?!

for what car? my civic has h4 bulbs, but in the silverstars the 9003 are the ones recommended.
Yeah, I'm looking for my Civic. Does the 9003 have both Hi & Low beams? or is it just a single bulb?

yup, has both high and low beam.

Sorry, for the late reply.

For Osram bulbs, check this site out: Link

For everyone's reference:

HB1=9004
HB2=9003=H4
HB3=9005
HB4=9006
HB5=9007

So, no, H4 is not the same as 9004. It is the same as 9003.

Yup, these bulbs have to be overdriven to compensate for the retarded blue coating. I think the Sylvania literature I read said the expected life is 1 year. Of course, actual life will vary between bulbs, whether any oil/dirt gets on the bulb, and your own usage pattern.
Sylvania makes these bulbs not because they're better, but because they're a profit-maker - charge more for low-life bulbs.

Cool. Thanks. Though I didnt see anything useful on that site (?).

Are the Euro SS's short life also? If not, where's the best place to order? Which are better, these or the (Euro) Phllips VisionPlus?

BTW, It seems the best non-HID bulbs available in the US are the Phillips HV, then the Sylvania Xtravision, since they're rated at 30% and 20% brighter respectively, and don't have a coating on them. Though as Technokid said in the other thread, they still have a slightly less life than regular bulbs.

I don't believe they make HB1 Osram Silverstars. I don't know about the Philips ones.

As for the bulbs not lasting that long, I think a lot of it has to do with the way you install them. When installed, they should not be touched with the bare hands at all. This causes body oils to be on the bulbs which causes them to heat up more than they should. The extra heat causes them not to last as long.

I've installed many many headlights.
