It's not much of a performance degradation to use single-channel vs dual channel
as long as your PC motherboard/BIOS supports single channel which the vast
majority will do just fine.

It's only a few percent (like 2-5%) difference in application benchmarks maximum,
and in many cases less than that.

Just go ahead with your plan and enjoy the cheap ram!

There is no real difference for laptops, as they dont runn 1066 fsb, they run 533 or 667 at best, so dual channel makes almost no difference at all.


remember the NForce2 motherboards with dual channel ram on socket "A" , this is about the same thing, 1 to 5% performance boost at most, which is really not even perceptible.

In another thread (that really long one on Super Talent 2x1GB kits), back few months ago I was predicting that 2x1GB of DDR2 RAM will be under $50 without rebates before the end of this calendar year. I even got questioned on how I was so sure, and I offered up some proof. My prediction ended up coming true.

I now predict that 2x1GB DDR2 will be under $40 without rebates (already there with rebates) and single 2GB DDR2 will be under $45 without rebates by the end of the calendar year. I don't have as much proof as last time, so my "prediction" is a bit shakier, but the thing is that DDR2 IC pricing has continued to erode, and the ICs that make up the 2GB sticks have eroded the most over this past week. So, even if it doesn't go any cheaper than it is now, we should start seeing more brands available for around this price (maybe with rebates). So, I feel as if I have time to wait for a better deal, or until I need it.

Speaking of needing it... I really don't. Got many gigs of spare RAM from recent rebate deals.

Currently running 4gigs at 1099Mhz (stable). This is my Q6600 IP35 setup. My 6320's DS3 setup has 2gig at 950Mhz (stable).

Rebates are a good indication of what the price of something will actually be once the rebate processing period has expired (usually 90-120 days out).

They (rebates) used to be promotions more for clearing out old models of things that were sitting around next to the new models, but now it's a method of just staying competitive.

Their shipping for RAM is too high. I guess they add a "handling fee". I have been using USPS Priority Mail because it is delivered faster than UPS ground.
