I got one from the MB frys. Came back out with the orange sticker of death (open box). I asked him to go back and get me one without the sticker, he comes back 10 seconds later -- it took him 20 seconds to come back, whereas it took him 4 minutes to find it the first time -- telling me they "all" had the sticker. In other words, he didn't even look.
I verified the MB and WH locations had only open box returns. One location said these were being cleared out and they weren't getting any more. The other said it was still a regularly stocked item...just they've run out of new boxes.

seems like prices have gone up a little in the last couple of weeks. I remember getting this CPU with a combo mobo for like 89 just 2 months ago. Also the quad core combos seem to have gone up like $50 the 9400 with mobo use to be 229-249 depending on what mobo just 6 weeks ago.
Mike

The lowest I've seen the E7200 combo at Fry's for is $99. It started at $129, dropped to $109, and then $99. But once Fry's introduced the E5200 in a combo for $99, they cranked up the price on the E7200 combo. They have had a couple E7300 combos here and there, but they're using OEM CPUs for those. And at stock voltage with the GF7050VT-M board, I got worse OC performance out of those than the E7200.

Anyways, the deals at Fry's in the past month or two have been pretty week, with some combos increasing in price. They must be saving it for the holiday shopping season.

I thought the best deal they did with the E7200 was the processor/mobo/antec solo combo for $120.

Core 2 duos have been falling in price since the same year they came out. Yes, it will not happen fast. It will happen gradually just like Intel wants it. There won't be big price cuts in the next 6 months. Intel never has big price cuts. They EOL products.

They are starting to turn obsolete but it will take many years for it to actually be obsolete. The first athlons will still do everything most home users expect out of a pc and they are almost 10 years old.

Well... When I was referring to big price cuts, I was thinking of my e6300 which I originally bought for $180, and LESS than 6 months from then it didn't even cost $100, and much better CPUs were available well under $180. If that isn't cutting prices, I don't know what is. Maybe I am using wrong terms here, but I hope you know what I mean...

As for core 2 duos becoming obsolete, "becoming" was the key word. I am aware that they wont really become obsolete any time soon, especially for people like me. 😉 I will buy better ram as a Christmas present for myself and hopefully squeeze out another 400-500Mhz out of my e6300. Then I intend to use it for at least another year, if not more, depending on how it will handle games and simple apps that I use.

I've purchased at least 10 of these from Fry's since they started carrying the E7200 in the $129 combo, and all of the gems have been from the earlier dates (e.g. June '08). The newer ones I've gotten, particularly the ones made in Costa Rica, haven't been as good (higher stock voltage, less OC ability at stock voltage). Of course, it's a small sample size, so I'd like to hear how the rest of you have fared.

What was the stock voltage like on the more recent chips? I bought a E7200 in June and thought the 1.1625 VID was too high, then I saw people who were getting values above 1.2... certainly no fun.

I just bought another one of these -- I bought the original on Friday, and ordered all the rest of my parts on Monday; I wasn't sure when they'd get delivered/I'd have a chance to test it, so I figured I'd buy another one and gain back the extra three days or so of time to return it. But it turns out they'll all come tomorrow.

Hopefully these won't make my brand new system burst into flames!

I got a newer Costa Rica e7200 at the last $80 sale. Vid was 1.25 (max, iirc), and it has not overclocked well at all, 3.2x with increased voltage needed to make it stable there. Not stable at all above 333fsb so far. Of course, I am not an OC master, so it might be my chops there as well.
