I was at a local Kmart in Greenville, MI and they had all their "Stanley Tools" on clearance. The clearance prices looked good, but they scanned even better..... for example:
3/8" Torque Wrench - Sticker said $41.99 Clearance Sign $31.00 Scanned Price $18.89

I calculated the discount to be 55% off! For quality Proffessional Grade, Lifetime Warranty Tools, that's HOT! I don't know if it's only at certain locations, regions or nationwide, so good luck !

Minor heads up, I scored a set of Stanley metric open end wrenches at a WalMart clearance a couple of years ago. I've kept them in the tool box in my garage -- not optimal storge, but not horrible -- and they've begun to rust without ever being used.

FYI

Stanley used to make a good product. It seems as though they don't care about the workmanship anymore though. I'd say they make medium end homeowner tools. I generally buy Craftsman when I want something decent that isn't super highly priced.

Kmart will start selling only Sears Craftsman brand tools by next week that's why they're clearing their tools section...as per conversation with the manager.

Kmart bought Sears 2 years ago so they're slowly consolidating their products...Text

Black and Decker tools were also on clearance to include KMart's own Benchtop pro brand.

Got some Stanley and Black and decker tools for 50% only. They were still scanning at their reg price so the cashier had to do manual override to give me the discount.:)

They may be fine for light use or non-critical use -- however I just cracked two Stanley sockets this weekend working on my car.

I still say buy quality tools w/a lifetime guarantee like Snap-On, Craftsman, Matco, and Cornwell. For me I want tools that won't break at 1 AM in the morning when I'm putting the
car back together to drive to work in a few hours....check your pawn shops -- sometimes they have loose sockets or inexpensive sets (YMMV) with quality tools.
