erh... i was THINKING about getting this monitor as well but it's not worth it - the response time is 50ms total, which is not very good compared to the newer LCD's out (decent LCD's should have RT's of 30ms or lower). this monitor's a bit dated as well... check out Toms Hardware for their review.
there's a similar post for this monitor on f.a.t.w.a.l.l.e.t.c.o.m.: here - i think some ppl got it for 324$... there's an additional 80$ rebate that can be found on Sony's site - i think it expires end of this month...
- anyway, if anyone's looking for an LCD, i'd wait until they release LCD's with FFD (feed forward driving) - they're supposed to be releasing it later this year. it's supposed to cut down the response times to under 20ms, which is very good for LCD's. high response times causes ghosting (screen 'lag') when playing games or videos with lots of motion.
Thx jplee3..
I'm looking forward to buy a monitor in the next one wk.. can't wait until FFD comes to market..
Does any one else hold any view about this monitor??
for 325$ shipped!!
sure it worth to pay extra for a label "SONY". Try to get to customer service, it's not included in that extra price.
Friend of mine has WEGA, comes to watch my TAU. "Same brilliant picture, I just paid $500 more".
!:disgust:
"its really up to the user. I have a sony 32" flat TV WEGA... it blows all other tvs away to me.
they do have there act together in the display dept."
I have used this monitor, it is really nothing special and there are far better alternatives out there. Sony TVs and flat panel displays have nothing in common.
I checked sony S51 at BestBuy B&M. Its defintely better then samsung, envision and KDS
Microtek and viewsonic also have similar picture quality but sony has a sleek design
I couldn't get my hands/eyes around M51..
S51 has a better response time then M51...
Does anyone has any first hand experience of the difference in picture qualities of M51 / S51 (except the response time 50 / 30 ms)
I'm a little concerned because of the conflicting reports from different places.
What would you guys consider if you have to buy a LCD in 300-400 bucks
i played with the S51 and the M51 at circuit city the other day as i'm also in the market for a decent lcd, i game mostly. i opened a window on both monitors and grabbed it and dragged them around the screen real quick to see if it was noticeable, the M51 seems to "trail" the window more than the S51, which seems right considering their response times are 30ms vs 50ms. i went ahead and ordered the S51 from dell ($400-50rebate=$350) and should recieve it by Monday or as early as this weekend. I'll play some games on it and let you guys know how it is by then. Also, for $499 you could get an Envision 7100e (17") from Costco if you didn't need something with fast specs (www.cnet.com gave them 8/10 rating with an editor's choice award).
