Saw this similar deal but involved PM'ing Staples.

Amazon has just lowered the price on this SMC 7004AWBR Wireless 4-Port Broadband Router w/Print Server to $174.95 Free Shipping.
Use $15 off $100 Code to get it for $149.95 Shipped

Send in $25 Rebate

Total after MIR = 134.95

They also lowered the price on SMC Wireless PC Card (SMC2632W) to $74.95 w/Free Shipping.
Use $10 off code to get it for $64.95

Send in $20 Rebate

Total after MIR = $44.95

Forgot to mention that this is a kina repost to this Thread

To sum up on the old thread, you can also try PM'ing Staples-------------item# IM1215090 to save a bit more.

$134.95 after MIR shipped from Amazon
or
$119.95 after MIR Plus tax from PM'ing Staples

I think Amazon deal is a lot easier and it's only $4 more but I don't have to phone in several times to get the deal since 8% Tax makes it almost the same as Amazon deal.

$179.90 for both Wireless Router (SMC7004AWBR) and Wireless PC Card (SMC2632W) is such a great deal.

Cheapest on Pricegrabber:
$189.95 for SMC7004AWBR (plus S/H)
$99.95 for SMC2632W (plus S/H)

Grab it while you can...........these combination won't last long, believe me....it's HOT

Remember that one of the reason's it's hot is that pretty soon (next year I think) the present 802.11b will be old technology. There is a new standard coming, which is faster, so the manufacturers are cranking out old product. That said - I've a SMC kit which after some initial head space and timing problems has been working pretty good. Sure beats running CAT 5 through the attic for a fixed system, and it's damn nice to walk around the house with the laptop.

Leave the title price with the rebate off. That is consistant with other threads.

Does anyone know if the wireless card can be used with a PCI adapter? If so which one?
BTW great find.

There is always something newer around the corner, however the fact remains that this is an excellent deal. For now 802.11b works pretty well - I see no reduction in access speed from DSL(480kbit/s at home) or T1 (1.3Mbit/s at work), and the new technology - I have not even heard about it - will likely be backward compatible.

Yo

802.11a would still need sometime before it is released...........even so, it will still be priced higher than normal since it's new.
Still, throughput of 802.11b is still adequate for everyday use ie. browsing internet, streaming mp3 or such.
The reason you might want to wait for 802.11a is that you will do a lot of file transfer between your desktop and laptop. Otherwise, 10mb bandwitdth is enough for today technology.

Interestingly, Amazon reduced price only for SMC wireless product. Other brands such as Linksys and D-Link are still priced the same.

wow thats a major kick in the butt, I just ordered this router and pc card for my neighbor, combo shipped 2nd day air for a total of, gasp, $315. Oh well, it's gonna be written off anyway 😉

This is a good find . Ii agree that tryng to match with Staples is probably not worth the hassle (unless you are trying to build up volume for credit in the dividends program)

«802.11a would still need sometime before it is released...........even so, it will still be priced higher than normal since it's new.»

There has been at least one announcement for 80211.a products but no details about price and availability. We should see more at the "802.11 Planet" conference next week.

«The reason you might want to wait for 802.11a ...»

Actually, speed is not as important as the frequency range. If you have a 2.4ghz phone, you will not be happy with any of the current products. Otherwise, they are cheap enough to take the plunge and upgrade to newer stuff in 18 months or so.

A bought this combo a couple of weeks ago using the old thread. Figures, now the combo is cheaper before rebates than I'll get AFTER the rebates...but anyway, great deal guys! My wife just loves surfing everywhere in the house and the wireless print server is choice!

802.11a runs at 55mb on a 5 gigahrtz freq.
while the current
802.11b runs only 11mb on a 2.4 gigahrtz freq.

As you can see by the differences in frequency they will not be compatible, unless as the 80211.a lucent access point i seen has 2 cards in it the 802.11a and the 802.11b, that will be compatible with both sides but only because it is doing both at the same time.

As for the difference in speed yes if you are just using it to surf the net than the 802.11b should be good enough but if you will be transfeing files at all wait a couple months for 802.11a
