there are some pretty hot phone deals in the latest Staples.com Weekly Hot Deals

2.4 GHz digital spread spectrum technology, Built-in digital answering machine, 22-minute memory, Backlit Display Caller ID/call waiting with 50-call history; 120-entry call directory, Expandable to 4 handsets

It's on sale at Staples.com for this week, exp 2/16/02
if you can find the $10 off $40, you can get the phone for only $59 with free shipping.

also there is IBM 2.4GHz Cordless Speakerphone 3460 with Call Waiting/Caller ID is only $39.99 with free shipping
$69.94 - $20.00 rebate - $10 off $40 Coupon = $39.99 with free shipping.

This phone has been available for less in recent hot deals at
CompUSA and other places. It was not worth even those discount prices,
as it works poorly and tends to break quickly. Some have reported
success with this phone, but more have reported misery.

Check out the reviews at Amazon.com if you want more caveots.

Not a hot deal.

This unit is at "end of life." They've already come out with a newer (and uglier IMHO) model. If you have one, look for the extra handsets to be discounted shortly to around $50 each (I'm starting to look).

Menus are very cell-phone-like. I have one and like it. It's even survived a couple of drop tests onto a carpeted floor, though I doubt any chip-based phone would survive rugrats or teenagers (give 'em a throwaway $5 wired unit).

It beats the similar VTech 2461 phone hands down (got one on the recent Staples/CompUSA price match, and it's still in the box), and is 2.4 each way, unlike some cheaper entry-level 2.4/900 combinations from other manufacturers.

One nice thing: takes AA rechargeables, rather than a proprietary battery.
